Agricultural land markets and land leasing in the Republic of Macedonia
Neda Petroska Angelovska, Marija Ackovska, Štefan Bojnec, 2012, original scientific article

Abstract: This paper aims to identify the driving force that shaped agricultural land structures, land market and land leasing in the Republic of Macedonia. Institutional developments and land reforms have so far been modest, and have not contributed to significant changes in agricultural ownership, operational structures, or land market and land leasing arrangements. Land ownership and land use are bimodal, consisting of several small-scale family farms and a fewlarge-scale agricultural enterprises. The small family farms own and operate land on several small parcels, which is one of the major obstacles to the modernisation of family farm production. They produce food for household subsistence with mixed crop, fruit, vegetable, grapevine and livestock production. A considerable portion of the land is uncultivated, which affects land market and land leasing values. Due to underdeveloped institutional frameworks and market institutions in support of small-scale farms, a large proportion of state-owned land is rented by agricultural enterprises.

Efficient energy use and renewable sources of energy in Slovenia
Štefan Bojnec, Drago Papler, 2011, original scientific article

Abstract: This paper presents unique survey results with opinions on the competitive supply and efficient energy use, sources of energy and renewable sources of energy. The multivariate factor analysis with three common factors confirms the significance of the price competitive supply of energy, energy costs for the economy, and the sustainable energy supply development and ecological perception in the energy use. Among renewable sources of energy, significance is given to the solar, hydro, biogas, and biomass energy, where the energy useand the renewable energy production in agriculture can play a greater role. Education and promotion activities are expressed as important for strengthening the knowledge, awareness, and social responsibility of the sustainable energy development and the use of renewable sources of energy.

Performance of the housing market at the micro level
Štefan Bojnec, Martin Romih, 2011, original scientific article

Abstract: This paper investigates the housing market performance in Slovenia; the focus is on housing prices at the micro level and according to statistical regions. The analyzed Slovenian regions are classified into three housing price groups: the highest prices are in the capital of Ljubljana and surrounding suburbs, as well as in the Primorska region. The middle group with moderate housing prices is represented by the Gorenjska region. The lowest housing prices are in regions located in the north-eastern part of Slovenia. An equality test with a priori and ex-post analyses confirms these findings. Furthermore, regression analysis shows that the impact on pricing of three major groups of explanatory variables (size, age and the floor level of housing) differs according to the housing region. In the most expensive housing regions, the size of housing has a significant impact on the housing price per square metre; this statistical association is less strong in the moderate and least expensive housing regions. The age and floor level of housing have significant impacts on housing prices in the most expensive and least expensive housing regions; however, these two associations are less strong in the moderately expensive housing region.

Changing role of the Slovenian defence industry
Štefan Bojnec, 2013, original scientific article

Abstract: Purpose This paper aims to contribute to the literature on the changing role of the defence sector in the economy at industry and enterprise levels focusing on defence-civilian cooperation and defence supply networking with foreign industry enterprises from complex industry-perspective. Design/methodology/approach Measuring is based on the comparative industry data and the unique survey evidence for the Slovenian defence industry enterprises to derive managerial and policy implications. Findings The role of the defence industry in the economy declined, but trade deficits from arms and ammunition increased. The industry enterprises can gain from defence-civilian cooperation and defence supply chain networking with foreign industry enterprises. Information-coordination institutions are seen to provide opportunities for future industry development in Slovenia. Research limitations/implications This research focuses on Slovenia. Future enhancement of the research would be to look into the possibility of applying the findings to other countries. The size of the enterprise, and even more the size of the country, does matter in the defence-market chain activities. Practical implications The proposed industry firm-level survey approach provides useful policy and managerial implications in the evaluation of defence industry supply and market chain cooperation and networking activities with foreign industry enterprises. The study proves the usefulness of the results, both to the future organizational development and as a decision-making tool in the complex industry systems. Originality/value This paper adds to the industry firm-level analyses as data management tools for evaluating the defence-civilian cooperation and networking of complex industry market chain activities for more effective management.
