Vprašanje razvojnega modela univerze na Primorskem : mestna univerza ali kampus?
Boštjan Bugarič, 2009, original scientific article

Abstract: Placing university contents into urban areas improves the quality of living and contributes to the offer of urban contents. Along with changes in city regulation and the regulation of urban development, university contents are a key factor determining the social development of a city. The development of the university inside a city can be divided into two concepts - the first has its roots in Europe and the second in America. The distinctive difference between the two concepts is spatial planningČ the European one advocates university development in close connection with the city, whereas the American one supports a system of autonomous development that is physically separated from the city. The characteristic trend of moving commercial activities from central areas to shopping centres in the suburbs additionally contributes to the reduction of activities in city centres. With an increased number of users living in the centre, the offer as well as the use of the contents in the historic centre would likely be increased. The student population brings a certain financial input and a long-term contribution to generating various events. Remoteness from the place of residence greatly influences the development and use of social contents in the city centre of Koper. Residents not living in the city centre tend to use its contents to a lesser degree. Placing the campus into the suburbs would, due to increased remoteness, negatively affect the implementation of events and lead to a reduction in the number of visitors to the city centre. In such a development scenario, the buildings in the historic centre are likely to remain unused. The remoteness of the campus from the city centre weakens their shared topical connections.

Arhitektura in razvoj obeh koprskih obzidij
Darko Likar, 2009, original scientific article

Abstract: Koper is one of the fortified northern Mediterranean coastal towns boasting continuous settlement since pre-antiquity. With the general public being only partially interested in the remnants of the two town walls and in the issues related to the past, our fieldwork has revealed only scarce information about their material existence. Architectural knowledge of ancient construction techniques, meticulous study and verification of archival sources and of the in situ condition has convinced us that the existence of the two town walls in Koper is worth thorough research. The application of new architectural and conservation sensorial methods (Likar, 1995) to the reconstruction of the Koper town walls has produced good results. The results gained through several years of research have induced us to formulate the hypothesis that the majority of the outer town wall is still preserved in various forms, with the exception of those parts where recent development has thoroughly transformed its foundations. A similar hypothesis could be proposed for the inner town wall, which however is inaccessible to researchers owing to ownership-related issues. Recently, numerous construction projects carried out in the old town core have confirmed our hypothesis on the presumed layout of the outer town wall. The key results of our research are the architectural reconstruction of both town walls and the presentation of their development through individual historical periods. The newly discovered elements and the reconstruction of the two town walls give new significance and value to the town. The new results gained through the investigation of the two town walls believed to be dilapidated offer Koper completely new development opportunities. The article presents the results of the research on the architecture of the Koper town walls together with relevant evidence and the reconstruction of their development through various historical periods.

Koprska fizika 19. stoletja
Stanislav Južnič, 2010, original scientific article

Abstract: The development of the physics teaching in Capodistran secondary school between Giuseppe Tartini and late 19th century brought those day experimental tools and books closer to our knowledge with a testimony of the high level education of those days. We had to concentrate on Vlacovich's accomplishment as he was the most important Capodistran professor of 19th century. He stood on the shoulders of his predecessors when he published his works in most important journals of his era. Our research also had something to say about his work in Trieste. The instruments bought for cabinet in Capodistrian Grammar School were certainly on European level during the second half of 19th. Therefore we compared them with similar equipment used in Grammar Schools of Klagenfurt, Novo Mesto, and Ljubljana. In this kind of research we had a lucky hand because we were able to double-check all data with yearly Grammar School Programs and yearly inventories. We mostly used the inventories of Ljubljana and Capodistrian Grammar School which makes this work one of the first of its kind founded on reliable sources. The Programs also contained the data of the cabinets' incomes. Those days school directors also liked to provide the listings of professors. They sometimes also noted their textbooks or rough sketch of teaching plans. We examined the old books from the times of Padres Scholarum Piarum which are still kept in the library of Italian Grammar School Gian Rinaldo Carli. Their bulk testimonies about the interests of those days professors and their students because so far ago the acquisition of the instruments was far from standardized and the professors personally decided what they need for education and also for research, which is not the case of modern Secondary Schools with no research involved. The Padres Scholarum Piarum with their pedagogical dedication were deeply involved in the Coastland everyday life after they somewhat became the competitors of the Jesuit order and even their replacement after the suppression of the Jesuits in 1773. On this occasion we provide one of the very first serious analyzes of the Padres Scholarum Piarum accomplishment also in comparison with their contemporary Jesuits' competitors
