Employee satisfaction, intrapreneurship and firm growth
Jasna Auer, Boštjan Antončič, 2011, original scientific article

Abstract: Purpose - Organizational performance, growth and development may depend considerably on entrepreneurship in existing organizations (intrapreneurship) and intrapreneurship employee-related antecedents. The purpose of this study is to focus on employee satisfaction (composed of four dimensions: general satisfaction with work; employee relationships; remuneration, benefits and organizational culture; and employee loyalty), intrapreneurship and firm growth. The model's underlying hypotheses were conceptually developed and empirically tested. Design/methodology/approach - Using data collected via a structured questionnaire sent by e-mail to 149 firms from Slovenia, the model's hypotheses were tested by applying structural equation modeling. Findings - The findings support the hypothesized relationships between employee satisfaction, intrapreneurship and growth. The influence of the control variables was also assessed in the model and firm age was found to be influential. Research limitations/implications - Firm growth can depend strongly on intrapreneurship and intrapreneurship employee-related antecedents. The study contributes to intrapreneurship research by empirically examining the relationship between employee satisfaction and intrapreneurship and testing the impact of employee satisfaction on firm growth. Practical implications - Firms need to take a detailed and systematic approach to employee satisfaction in order to improve intrapreneurship and growth. Social implications - Activities related to the stimulation of employee satisfaction and intrapreneurship can have also social implications, since they can increase creation of the new wealth in the society. Originality/value - This study can be differentiated from past studies, since it considers an ensemble of employee satisfaction elements (general satisfaction with work, employee relationships, remuneration, benefits and organizational culture and employee loyalty) as a crucial antecedent of intrapreneurship and builds a model of employee satisfaction-driven intrapreneurship and firm growth, which has not been examined before.

One community's secret
Joanne Marie Ferraro, 2007, original scientific article

Abstract: For six years one small community of rustics working on a Venetian patrician's landed estate in the province of Padua kept a horrible secret: one of the field workers was fathering children with his daughter and then murdering them. A bounty hunter, hungry for a cash reward, turned the village gossip to his advantage, denouncing the affair to the Venetian Podestà, who set out to punish the "monstruous delinquents and abominable sinners" and restore Divine Law. This article analyzes the criminal inquiry, highlighting the testimonies of the accused, their neighbors, and their kin to reveal the ambiguities surrounding deviant behavior. The Venetian Podestà could not comprehend why no one, including the village priest, had denounced such obviously grave crimes to the state. Community members, on the other hand, were intent on keeping the incest and infanticide a secret because cohesion was more important to their collective livelihood and reputation than abuse and sin

Sustainable participation behaviour in agri-environmental measures
Štefan Bojnec, İlkay Unay Gailhard, 2015, original scientific article

Abstract: In recent years, studies have identified the determining factors for participation in voluntary agrienvironmental measures (AEMs) by farmers who support sustainable agricultural production practices. Although the previous implementation of AEMs is an important determinant of sustainable behaviour, attempts to investigate the forces driving this long-term behaviour are scarce. This study aims to provide empirical insights into which determinants of probability of sustainable behaviour are associated with AEM participation by Slovenian farmers. Particular attention is given to the drivers of farm and farmland use characteristics. The data used are taken from the Farm Accountancy Data Network for the 2004-2010 period. Logit regressions for Markov transition probability models and a long-term sustainable participation behaviour model are used to explore the existence of distinct characteristics of AEM participation for different sub-periods. The empirical results confirmed that different drivers are associated with sustainable behaviour across time periods and farm types. Land productivity, capital intensity and farm size have significant effects on the probability that a farmer will consistently participate in the AEM programme for at least 5 year period. These findings suggest that farm-specific characteristics are the primary drivers of sustainable behaviour associated with AEM participation
