The analysis of residual income
Igor Stubelj, Mateja Jerman, Primož Dolenc, 2009, original scientific article

Abstract: In this study we were interested in the residual income of selected Slovene companies. This parameter of company's efficiency not only looks at return on invested funds, but also implicitly compares it with risk adjusted opportunity cost of such investment. It is therefore argued that this parameteris a better performance measure than simply accounting performance measures. Our results based on selected listed companies in Slovenia showed that residual income was far from being positive, at least in year 2006. In year 2007 the situation improved when three out of ten selected companies had a negative residual income which means that companies did not create value for their shareholders and that they did not generate enough profits to cover the appropriate cost of capital, i.e. the cost of capital that take into consideration the risk adjusted opportunity cost.

Production optimisation - case of foundry factory
Matjaž Novak, Boris Čuk, Rok Strašek, 2013, original scientific article

Abstract: Production optimisation is the major objective of any production process and it is tightly related to long term sustainable development of any production factory. Among production optimisation frameworks the overall equipment efficiency (OEE) methodology is the most popular one. However, this methodology approaches production optimisation only from the technology point of view and ignore the economic perspective of optimisation. This article develops case study approach to compare two different methodological approaches which relate technical and cost efficiency. The first framework is based on econometric techniques and regression analysis. The second one is based on mathematical modelling. Basic difference between both is related to the explanation power of model used. Econometric approach allows error term and consequently only regression relationship between technical and cost efficiency. Mathematical modelling requires definition relationship between technical and cost efficiency. To take the decision of which framework is preferable we apply both methodological approaches in the case of foundry industry. Our results select mathematical modelling with key performance indicator overall cost efficiency (OCE) framework as preferable methodological approach to production optimisation.

A balanced scorecard-based model for evaluating e-learning and conventional pedagogical activities in nursing
Boštjan Žvanut, Damjan Vavpotič, Tomaž Hovelja, 2015, original scientific article

Abstract: The evaluation of e-learning and conventional pedagogical activities in nursing programmes has focused either on a single pedagogical activity or the entire curriculum, and only on students or teachers' perspective. The goal of this study was to design and test a novel approach for evaluation of e-learning and conventional pedagogical activities that considers students', teachers' and managers' perspectives. A case study of the proposed approach was performed at a publicly funded nursing faculty with Slovenian and Italian students from 2009 to 2012. The case study was combined with focus group discussions, interviews, direct observation and survey. The proposed approach allows management to compare the value of different pedagogical activities through the students', teachers' and managers' perspectives. The approach proved useful in the evaluation of pedagogical activities and provided valid arguments for long-term pedagogical process improvement

Population ageing and labour market in Slovenia and European Union
Tomaž Kofalt, Žiga Čepar, 2015, original scientific article

Abstract: In this paper we investigate the influence and importance of population ageing for labour market. Particularly we focus on unemployment, salaries and population education level. After reviewing some of the previous research on the influence of demographic ageing on labour market, we set three hypotheses, referring to the three above mentioned specific aspects of labour market, which were tested using multivariate regression analysis. Based on demographic and socio-economic panel data on Slovenian municipalities, we separately tested the three hypotheses in case of Slovenia; and using panel data on European Union countries we separately tested the three hypotheses in case of European Union and compared the results. Based on data for Slovenia and European Union we found out that population ageing increases unemployment and decreases population education level, however in case of analysis of salaries the results are somehow ambiguous.
