2. K pojmu medkulturnosti pri DeweyuLenart Škof, 2007, original scientific article Abstract: The first part of the article deals with Dewey's pragmatism and its relation to intercultural philosophy. Already Deweyćs early thought took into consideration the importance of intercultural philosophy, and the article points out some elements in his thought that reveal the hidden potential of Dewey's philosophy for contemporary intercultural philosophy. It also discusses several characteristics of pragmatism with regard to intercultural thought, and lays special emphasis on Dewey's stay in China, which gave rise to a new epoch of intercultural contacts between the American and Chinese philosophical and political tradition. Furthermore, it highlights Dewey's social philosophy that gave this American philosopher of classical pragmatism the platform to develop his notion of democracy. The second part of the article suggests a possible way of applying Dewey's social philosophy to modern political theories as developed by Latin American, African and Indian philosophers. The questions posed by the article relate to the currently very topical intercultural North-South divide and related issues of poverty and social inequality. They place special emphasis on the notions of freedom as developed by the West and the South, thereby proposing a possible alternative understanding of the Western notion of liberal democracy Keywords: ameriški pragmatizem, medkulturna filozofija, konfucijanstvo, svoboda, demokracija, latinskoameriška filozofija, afriška filozofija, indijska filozofija, družbena etika Published in RUP: 10.07.2015; Views: 2812; Downloads: 23 Link to full text |

5. Social responsibility and professional ethics in management : some empirical evidences at country levelsCene Bavec, 2012, original scientific article Abstract: In the presented exploratory study, we demonstrated some empirical evidences on relations between social responsibility of business, managerial ethics, and economic environment at county levels. We conducted desk research on 41 countries using different secondary information sources. We confirmed hypotheses, which associate higher social responsibility and ethics to openness and competitiveness of people and management, enhanced economic performance, higher economic freedom, and lower level of corruption. The rationale behind the research hypothesis is disputed question if socially responsible and ethically managed business is economically more successful and sustainable. Evidently, in the most developed countries unsocial and unethical business behavior is not generally acceptable. However, in less developed economies profit is so high on the priority list that social responsibility and ethics are academic questions. We hypothesize that companies consciously select where it is beneficial to be socially responsible and ethical, and where it is more profitable to make business ruthlessly. We also tested the hypothesis that social responsibility contributes to the resilience of economy. This hypothesis was partially confirmed and partially rejected. Finally, we addressed a question if our results are meaningful for individual organizations, as well.We could just say that more developed countries have a larger proportion of businesses that behave affirmatively regarding social and ethical issues, which means that they find it beneficial also at individual level.
