11. Cross-border aspects of sustainable development in the Adriatic regionMilan Bufon, 2013, original scientific article Abstract: In the Adriatic region one could find several contradictory tendencies, as a result of local accommodation of social structures and systems to the political organization of space. The persistent planning and spatial divergence prevents the region from achieving the same potential common development visions, bringing forward that area as a special development region within the EU. The discussed case shows the need for a more appropriate governance of different horizontal (spatial and sectorial) as well as vertical (hierarchical) policies in planning crossborder cooperation or social and spatial (re)integration of borderlands and population, especially if we try to create a more sustainable and long-lasting development plan for our increasingly globalized and co-dependent common home on the European and Mediterranean level Keywords: Jadransko morje (regija), trajnostni razvoj, čezmejno sodelovanje, regionalizem, predpisi Evropske unije Published in RUP: 15.10.2013; Views: 3481; Downloads: 140 Link to full text |
12. Impact of euro adoption in emerging European countriesIrena Vodenska, Lou Chitkushev, 2013, original scientific article Abstract: We study the impact of the euro on emerging European countries by investigating three country groups: (1) seventeen Eurozone countries, (2) seven eu Eastern and Central European (ECE) members using local currencies, and (3) six EU candidates. We analyze macroeconomic indicators and propose models to investigate whether similar or different indicators influence sovereign debt for each group. We find that exports and unemployment are positively related to sovereign debt while market capitalization shows negative relation with sovereign debt. We argue that the recent European sovereign debt crisis has raised serious challenges for the Eurozone, and propose that EU ECE members and EU candidates delay the adoption of the euro. 14.
