Garden as an eye : the garden of the venetian palace Soranzo-Cappello
Erika Zlatkov, 2008, original scientific article

Abstract: This paper concerns the garden of the Venetian palace Soranzo-Cappello and is situated in a wider iconological and symbolic-theoretical framework. The garden is a continuous meeting of opposites, which succeed in coming to life as a harmonious whole; it is a symbolic space on account of its specific emplacement between nature and cultural landscape, and it is a space of symbols, since it has its own inner speech. The garden's appearance is subjected to climatic, temporal and terrestrial influences, and also to the will of man, who shapes it. The purpose of this study is to lead ourselves to thinking of a garden as a work of art, for man's power of expression is not only real, material; it is also spiritual, immaterial. The Venetian garden represents the interweaving of both. It is a work of art in open space, to which is also given a useful value. It is an emblematic figure, a mental and formal space which differs from the surroundings - both reflective and thoughtful
