Economic Statistics : Study Guide
Borut Kodrič, 2023, drugo učno gradivo

Opis: The study guide is designed to introduce students to the main concepts used by statisticians and economists to measure economic phenomena, while emphasizing the practical applications of these concepts in real-world scenarios. The study guide describes how the production of economic statistics is organised, who are the main data producers, what are the main databases available over the Internet and how can the quality of statistics be assessed. Thanks to this study guide, students will better understand where to find and how to use statistics on national accounts, government’s public deficit and debt, short-term economic indicators, international trade and globalisation, labour market, prices and inflation, etc.
Ključne besede: economic statistics, index numbers, price statistics, demographic statistics, labour force statistics, labour market statistics, short-term business indicators, national accounts, productivity analysis

Employment experience of immigrant workers in tourism
Alja Žigo, Janja Gabruč, Emil Juvan, 2017, kratki znanstveni prispevek

Opis: This research explores the experience of immigrants employed in tourism in Slove- nia. Four main areas were studied: (1) formal regulation of working and living, (2) health and social care, (3) job satisfaction, and (4) integrationinto the Slovenianen- vironment. The causes for this research were recent stories in various media regard- ingforeignworkersinSlovenianeconomyandlittletonoresearchstudiesinthefield of tourism. The idea of the article was to demonstratethe employment of labour mi- grants% experiences in tourism and to make proposals to improve the employment experience in the future. We started out by studying the existing theory, and then performed qualitative research, in which the employment experiences of four im- migrants was studied in the previously mentioned four identified areas. Interviews were carried out with immigrants from different countries and of different profes- sions, andwerelaterevaluatedwithcontentanalysis.Theresultsofthestudyshow that the employment experience of immigrants employed in tourism in Slovenia is both positive and negative, as there were positive and negative factors of experience identifiedin all areasof research. We do notwantto give a generalisedassessmentof theexperience, but rathershow certainviewsandexperiences;basedonthat, wecan learn.Theresultsdonotapplytotheentirepopulation, butwiththemwepresentthe diversity of the subject. The greatestlimitation while researchingwas finding partic- ipants. Initially, proposals for improvement are given on three levels; government, employer, and society. The main improvement should be the better flow of infor- mation, for which we suggest transferringmore information online. Slovene society should be striving for tolerance so that foreigners would feel more welcomed.

Supplementary material for paper The missing link between wages and labour productivity in tourism : evidence from Croatia and Slovenia
Sergej Gričar, Violeta Sugar, Štefan Bojnec, 2020, zaključena znanstvena zbirka raziskovalnih podatkov

Opis: The present article aims to analyse wage-labour productivity cau-salities in Croatia and Slovenia using cointegration methods basedon monthly time series data of variables for labour productivityand real gross wages in tourism industry during the periodDecember 1999%January 2020. The data vector is integrated bychain indices with the constant base January 2000%100. A sto-chastic trend and shocks are covered in the analysis. Shocks arelinked to the European Union accession, and economic crisis fol-lowing with overwhelmed tourist arrivals. The contribution of theresearch is two-fold. First, the equations for at most normal dis-tributed variables of labour productivity and real wages in tourismare exposed. Three spatial cointegration relations confirm labourproductivity integrity of the regional tourism market. Second,pair-wise causalities indicate one cointegrated vector for labourproductivity, which drives real gross wages in tourism sub-indus-tries. These results suggest that for a higher non-seasonal assess-ment of real gross wage, the labour productivity should rise, i.e.less workers, more robotization or more tourist arrivals with betterquality solutions. These findings are at most important to beimplemented after the COVID-19 infection crisis with expectedrestructurings and digital transformation in the tourism industry.

Population ageing and labour market in Slovenia and European Union
Tomaž Kofalt, Žiga Čepar, 2015, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In this paper we investigate the influence and importance of population ageing for labour market. Particularly we focus on unemployment, salaries and population education level. After reviewing some of the previous research on the influence of demographic ageing on labour market, we set three hypotheses, referring to the three above mentioned specific aspects of labour market, which were tested using multivariate regression analysis. Based on demographic and socio-economic panel data on Slovenian municipalities, we separately tested the three hypotheses in case of Slovenia; and using panel data on European Union countries we separately tested the three hypotheses in case of European Union and compared the results. Based on data for Slovenia and European Union we found out that population ageing increases unemployment and decreases population education level, however in case of analysis of salaries the results are somehow ambiguous.
