Romansko-germanska glagolska prepletanja v kraškem in istrskem narečnem prostoru
Rada Cossutta, 2008, original scientific article

Abstract: The paper analyses Romance and Germanic verbal elements used in the Karstic and Istrian dialect areas from the points of view of morphology and lexicology. In the field of morphology, the paper sheds light on constant adaptation of Romance and Germanic borrowings to Slovene conjugation patterns, which is evident in particular from the following phenomena: 1) addition of Slovene verbal prefixes and suffixes to Romance-Germanic bases; 2)adoption of Slovene verbal endings or, more precisely, Slovene infinitive endings; 3) changes in aspectč 4) formation of the descriptive and passive participle ending in -n/-t from borrowed verbal bases. In the field of lexicology, the paper reveals the diverse lexical palette of Romance and Germanic borrowings and establishes their meaning and semantic changes. It places special emphasis on calques of Romance origin, which are mostly expressive formations and concrete proof of the interferencial richness of Karstic and Istrian dialect vocabulary

Iz etimološke delavnice SDLA-SI : (ob izidu SDLA-SI II)
Rada Cossutta, 2009, original scientific article

Abstract: The publication of the second volume of Slovenski dialektološki leksikalni atlas slovenske Istre [Slovene Lexical Dialectological Atlas of Slovene Istria] (SDLA-SI II) presents the author of this contribution with an opportunity to answer a few questions that arise at the completion of such a comprehensive and long-term project. The dialect material of Slovene Istria, collected by means of field work and based upon the questionnaire of the regional linguistic atlas of Friuli (ASLEF) and then cartographically presented, opens up new dimensions for Slovene and Romance dialectology, for it provides a platform for further studies in this area. In its essence, the Atlas is no more than an open book calling for phonetic, morphological, semantic and, above all, lexical studies to derive from it and draw a new, scientifically based, linguistic portrait of Slovene Istria. A unique opportunity is offered to the etymologist in particular, who by reconstructing word origins can analyse and record the diversity of Istrian dialects. Using concrete examples extracted from the section of the Atlas dealing with forestry and wood processing, the author attempts to illustrate the phenomenon of interference from the viewpoint of necessity- and occasion-based loanwords, synonyms, derivatives and compounds she came across when gleaning through the Istrian Slovene Atlas SDLA-SI II
