Italijanske jezikovne prvine v spontanem govoru v Slovenski Istri
Jana Volk, 2007, original scientific article

Abstract: The article deals with the presence of Italian linguistic elements in spontaneous speech in Slovene Istria. In this area, the Slovene and Italian languages have been in contact for centuries, influencing each other on various linguistic levels. The article analyses spontaneous speech, which is not standardised; this sometimes made it difficult to establish whether certain analysed cases represented a feature of spontaneous speech or interference of the Italian language. The analysis was conducted on a corpus of spontaneous speech created on the basis of an audio recording of a conversation between a car salesman and a customer. The examples of interference were analysed on the levels of lexicology, morphology and syntax, and classified in the following sections: Noun Gender, Noun Number, Noun Case, Use of the Preposition "od", Linking with Prepositions, Comparison of Adjectives, Numerals, Personal Pronoun Replacing an Object Expressed by a Noun, Pronoun "ki", Use of the Infinitive, Use of the Present Tense for Expressing Future Time, Aspect, Reflexivity of the Verb, Word Order, Simple Sentence, Main Clause, Subordinate Clause, Calques, Lexis and Idioms. Most cases of Italian language interference were found on the level of lexis - they represent almost one half of the cases of interference from the material analysed. There emerges the question whether the results would have been different if the speech had been prepared in advance or if the two speakers knew their conversation was being recorded. It has been proven that the presence of recording devices can hinder spontaneity. If speakers have the time to prepare the text, they produce it more carefully and with more regard to the standards of the literary language, which in this case could have been perhaps reflected in a lower frequency of Italian language interference. Nevertheless, the aim of the present article is to point out some characteristics of the spoken language in an informal speech situation in Slovene Istria, where the language develops in conformity with the rules of the Slovene spoken language and at the same time in intense contact with the Italian language.

Gotičko zidno slikarstvo u Istri (novi prilozi jednoj budućoj sintezi)
Željko Bistrović, 2007, original scientific article

Abstract: The present survey of Gothic mural painting in Istria includes discussions about newly discovered mural paintings, some unpublished localities and their associations and suggestions of new interpretations regarding well known cycles of paintings. Examples are presented chronologically, beginning with the oldest reliably dated monument - the mural paintings in the church of St. Martin in Bičići. In contrast with other interpretations the mural paintings in the church of St. Nicholas in Rakotule are attributed to a single painter. The same is argued about the mural paintings in the church of St. Anthony in Žminj. Newly discovered remains of mural paintings in the church of St. Catherine in Lindar are associated with the mural paintings from the church of St. Cross in Butoniga. The mural paintings from the church of St. Mary of Health in Medulin and the church of St. Francis of Assisi in Pula have not yet been published. Both are attributed to the same workshop. New frescoes have been uncovered in the church of St. John in Lovran and they are attributed to two different painters. The more skilled of the two painters painted in the spirit of trecento under the influence of Bolognese painting, while the other painted in a rustic style, which associates him with the Alpine painting influences. The mural paintings in the church of St. Helen near Oprtalj, which were traditionally attributed to Klering's workshop, are considered to be the work of a Furlan workshop in this paper and are associated with the mural paintings in the church of St. Francis in Cividale. Previously unpublished remains of frescoes in the church of St. George in Plomin are associated with mural paintings in the church of St. Anthony in Barban. Another cycle of paintings, which has not yet been published and is currently under restoration, is located in Oprtalj as well. It is painted on the walls of the church of St. Sylvester and the paintings are associated with the ones found in the church of St. Stephen in Zanigrad. Several other localities are mentioned and the establishment of local late Gothic workshops, associated with renowned painters Vincent of Kastav, John of Kastav and the so-called Colourful Master, is discussed

Poizkus merjenja trajnostnega razvoja slovenske Istre
Janez Berdavs, 2007, original scientific article

Abstract: The article investigates the possibilities of measuring sustainable development of the Slovene part of Istria with different indicators. The methodology of elaboration of indicators for monitoring sustainable development on a local scale, for purposes of informing producers and executants of local developmental policies and for the purpose of raising awareness of the local population in a long-term temporal perspective is explained. In recent years sustainable development has become a widely accepted concept referred to by numerous public institutions, non-government organizations and companies, however the problem of the exact definition of sustainable development and its measures in concrete situations have not yet been sufficiently addressed. The article contains a presentation of methodology and the process of defining the form and assortment of indicators. Assortment of indicators is constructed by using a bottom-to-top approach, the need for collaboration of representatives of different developmental interest groups from the area in question and experts from different fields of research in the formation of different assortments of indicators is stressed. The assortment is not a collection of indexes but rather simple indicators, constructed from several values and organized accordingly to a thematic model. The article offers a consideration of the weaknesses of the assortment, particularly its subject to error due to limited data accessibility. Finally the article presents a synthetic oversight of the developmental situation of the Slovene part of Istria from the point of view of sustainability

Izbor vesti o Istri v slovenskem časopisju do leta 1880
Branko Marušič, 2007, review article

Abstract: Being one of the Austrian provinces comprising Slovenes, Istria and all its varied economic and social problems also made the Slovene press, which established itself as a constant companion of the Slovene public life in 1843 with Kmetijske in rokodelske novice (The Farming and Crafts News). A few new Slovene newspapers emerged in the year 1848, with even more appearing after the introduction of parliamentarism in the Austrian monarchy. The papers were published in Ljubljana as well as other Slovene centres of the time (Klagenfurt, Gorizia, Maribor, Trieste). The newspapers most of all published correspondence from Istria, as well as articles and stories on Istrian topics. The correspondents were Slovene priests serving in Istrian dioceses, teachers, clerks and other Slovenes and Croatians. The author of the present paper copied out the material on events in the Austrian Littoral from Slovene newspapers dating from the period preceding 1880. Since Istria and several of the Kvarner islands were part of this administrative unit, the author also copied out the published material dealing with this Austrian province directly or indirectly. The paper is a selection of such extracts, presenting with abstracts, citations or mere bibliographic data the news items and articles reporting on the general situation in Istria, its economy, education, church, municipalities, the administration of the province, the Slovene national movement (reading societies, mass meetings), Koper, and the relationships between the Italians and the Slavs in Istria.

Zbirka "Pietro Nobile" Državnog arhiva u Rijeci kao izvor za proučavanje izgleda istarskih naselja početkom XIX. stoljeća
Marijan Bradanović, 2007, original scientific article

Abstract: This article contains an analysis of a collection of drawings representing motifs from Istria. They were drawn by the renowned architect Pietro Nobile from Trieste and are kept in the National Archives in Rijeka. The history of the collection is described - it had been discovered, bought and catalogued between the Two Wars by Camillo De Franceschi, a historian, librarian and archivist from Pula. After World War II the collection has been kept in the National Archives in Rijeka. The collection consists of 79 drawings of vistas and landscapes and three portraits. It was dated on the grounds of a contemporary inscription from the year 1815 on the portrait of canon Valčić from Brseč, yet some of the drawings were certainly created somewhat earlier. The drawings are marked by their sketchy and explicitly realistic manner, and differ from their contemporary depictions of Istrian towns, where realistic qualities were lost during subsequent treatment. Previously unknown details of the urban scheme of Istrian towns are described, which have been lost in the intervening period, including some, for which these drawings represent the only illustration. Like his predecessors Nobile too is primarily interested in documenting monuments from the Antiquity, yet his work exhibits a broader interest in antiques, an anticipation of the forthcoming period of Romanticism. Among the numerous vistas from Pula, providing a more precise set of information than any other source known so far, there is an outstanding depiction of the exterior side of the Golden Gate with a segment of the city walls and a tower in the northern direction. The vistas from Rovinj, including drawings of a part of the front façade of the St. Euphemia parish, a pedestal with side columns and the remains of the harbour quarantine on the Rovinj waterfront are of special interest. The drawing of the main town squarein Koper, including a detail of the façade of the Armeria building and one of the original front façade of the church of St. Peter in Piran are noteworthy as well. Among the motifs from Poreč the forum temple stands out and an illustration of its back façade with Medieval walls in the elevation isconsidered to be a rarity. Vistas from rarely depicted towns represent an even more valuable source of information, especially the drawing with a fortified causeway in front of the inner town walls of Umag and the drawings of the main entrance to Labin and Tinjan depicting a tower with a passage, erected over the main city entrance. The towns Bale, Plomin, Motovun, Svetvinčenat and the castels in Payin and Lupoglav have been found to remain virtually unchanged. The veracity of depictions is proven by a parallel survey of available graphic art material and through field research. Apart from possessing great artistic value this collection represents one of the most comprehensive graphic art sources of information concerning old Istrian towns from the first half of the 19th century. Despite this fact it has only received modest attention of researchers, so let this be a reminder and an appeal for further comparative analysis of the drawings and evaluation of architectural and conservational endeavours of Pietro Nobile in Istria
