Abstract:Uvod: Znanstveno publiciranje je objavljanje rezultatov znanstvenih raziskav vznanstvenih revijah.

Abstract:Background: Scholarly communication is the publication of research findings inscientific journals. Scientific publishing is not possible without scientific communication and exchange of information between scientists. Scientific journals play an important role in the exchange of scientific information. The aim of the study was to find out how open access to scientific communication affects the process of this communication and to determine to what extent scientists publish their work electronically. Methods: A survey of the use of electonic publishing in scholarly communication was conducted. The questionnaire including 36 open-ended, scaledand closed-ended questions was sent to 46 randomly selected authors whose contributions appeared in the journal "Zdravstveno varstvo" in 2005. Results: The survey showed that in the previous three years, as many as 80 percent of the respondents turned from the print to electronic medium. The form of publication had no impact on the rating of their scientific work: 94 percent of the responders said that reviewers used the same standards for papers in electronic form and for contributions appearing in print medium. Allsurvey participants shared the view that copy rights represent an important or a very important issue in the realm of publication of research findings. Conclusions: The survey of electronic publishing has confirmed the critical role of electronically published research data in scholarly communication. These publications are intended for wider scientific circles and have become an integral part of the scientific process. Publishing research findings in electronic medium is mandatory for the scholarly communication process. Familiarity with topical issues and information sources is of utmost importance for applications for research projects grantedby the Public Research Agency of the Republic of Slovenia (ARRS). The survey has confirmed the significant role of electronic scientific journals inthis context. All survey participants, whatever their age and academic status, consulted electronic scientific journals for the preparation of their research projects.
