Abstract:	Prispevek na osnovi pregleda do sedaj opravljenega raziskovalnega dela po svetu obravnava človeško bolečino v okviru telesne in duševne stiske ter osvetli samouničevalno vedenje in samomorilno tveganje v luči motenj duševnega in telesnega delovanja. Poudarek je na celostni obravnavi delovanja organizma tako v primeru zdravja kot bolezni. Razložene so nekatere pogoste zmotne razlage izrazov duševne stiske in predstavljene smernice za znanstveno in strokovno delo na tem področju v prihodnosti.

Title:	Is it my body, that hurts? Is it my soul, that hurts? In any case - it hurts!
Abstract:	The article reviews investigative work to date worldwide on the topic of human pain in the frame of bodily and psychological distress, as well as highlights self-destructive behaviour and suicide risk in the light of mental and somatic disorders. Our basis is a wholistic approach to human functioning,in the case of health as well as disease. Some of the common misinterpretations of expressions of mental distress are expalined and guidelines for scientific and professional work on the topic in the future are presented.
