1. An empirical study on basic and conceptual knowledge, procedural knowledge and problem solving among primary school studentsAmalija Žakelj, Tina Štemberger, Andreja Klančar, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: In this paper, we present the results of an empirical study examining the achievements of Slovenian elementary school students in arithmetic, with a particular focus on decimal numbers at the levels of basic and conceptual, procedural and problem-solving knowledge. The study aimed to determine whether there are differences or correlations between students' achievements in decimal numbers at these levels of knowledge and whether performance at one level can predict performance at another. Based on an empirical non-experimental study involving 100 Slovenian elementary school students, the findings revealed significant correlations and statistically significant differences between students' achievements at the levels of basic, conceptual, procedural and problem-solving knowledge of decimal numbers. Furthermore, performance at the levels of basic and conceptual, and procedural knowledge were found to predict performance in problem-solving tasks, and vice versa. The study's results indicate that gaps in basic and conceptual or procedural knowledge are reflected in difficulties when solving complex problems, where success often depends on the accuracy of intermediate steps within the solution process. 2. Knowledge avoidance – consistency, taxonomy, and etiologyTomaž Grušovnik, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: Often, our reluctance to accept new ideas is the obstacle to advancing knowledge. This reluctance also plays an important role in unethical behavior. Yet, despite being widely recognized as a major factor in moral misconduct across the ethical spectrum, knowledge avoidance is plagued by a lack of clarity about the precise nature and characteristics of the epistemic phenomena it encompasses. First, these phenomena appear to be contradictory, since avoidance usually requires knowledge of what is to be avoided, and thus avoidance of knowledge seems impossible. Second, knowledge avoidance seems to be an umbrella term that encompasses a variety of different doxastic states. And third, the reasons and motivations for knowledge avoidance seem to encompass biological factors as well as ontological and psychological aspects. Drawing on both traditional and contemporary philosophical literature, the present paper aims to shed light on all these faces of knowledge avoidance by exploring problems related to its consistency, taxonomy, and etiology. The essay concludes with an examination of the moral dimensions of these phenomena. It explores the problem of responsibility and culpability, and even the potential benefits of knowledge avoidance. 8. Factors affecting effectiveness of knowledge management : a case of Bosnia and Herzegovina enterprisesMirela Kljajić-Dervić, Roberto Biloslavo, 2015, published scientific conference contribution Abstract: A successful business is a business based on knowledge. In modern economy, successful companies appreciate knowledge and systematically support its creation, sharing and application within business processes. Very often knowledge is the most critical economic resource; it is therefore necessary to effectively direct and lead processes of creation or acquisition, transfer, use and exploitation of knowledge. These processes together form the concept of knowledge management. Through effective knowledge management, organizations can improve their performance and gain a competitive advantage. But first they need to identify critical success factors to develop knowledge managements in organizations. This paper shows and discusses results of the empirical study conducted in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Based on existing research and proposed models, the study outlines six factors (i.e. organizational culture, human capital, management, organizational structure, reward system, information technology), which we believe have a direct impact on the effectiveness of knowledge management. Research data have been collected through a survey. The research sample was composed of 317 companies that employed 10 to 600 employees. Collected data were analyzed by use of the structural equation modelling. This will allow us to propose a model of influential factors for effective knowledge management. Results of the study will help organizations to better understand critical factors influencing the effectiveness of knowledge management. 10. Relation between knowledge management and turnover in Slovenian micro and small start-up organisationsRiko Novak, Vasja Roblek, Gabrijel Devetak, 2013, original scientific article Abstract: This article discusses the importance of knowledge management and employee turnover, using the example of selected Slovenian organisations, in particular, technology parks. The purpose of this article is to point out statistical characteristics between employee turnover and certain selected independent variables. The empirical research was conducted on a population of 667 Slovenian organisations gathered from the subjects of an innovative environment database, and a further sample of 51 chosen technology parks from the A group. By implementing multivariate regression analysis, we sought to examine whether knowledge requirements and knowledge transfer paths in these organisations have a statistically significant influence on employee turnover. The aim of this article is to present the results of empirical research that defines the development of a conceptual framework for understanding the influence of knowledge management on employee turnover. The results have shown that the importance of intellectual and social capital, intangible capital assets and their continuous measurement must be acknowledged within an organisation.
