Education and youth unemployment in South Africa after COVID-19 : evidence from the General Household Survey (GHS)Lana Erasmus, Clement Moyo, Andrew Phiri, 2026, original scientific article Abstract: Youth unemployment remains a major challenge in South Africa, and the COVID-19 pandemic has further disrupted education and labour-market transitions. This study investigates how educational attainment influences youth unemployment in the post-COVID period using the nationally representative 2021 General Household Survey. A sample of 3,652 youths was analysed using logit and probit models across three specifications that incorporate education, demographic factors, and household welfare characteristics. The results show that higher education significantly reduces the likelihood of unemployment, with the strongest effects for diploma and degree holders. However, these effects vary across provinces. Youth in Free State, Northwest, and Limpopo experience high unemployment even with higher qualifications, indicating weak regional labour markets. A sensitivity analysis reveals that returns to education are lower in mining-dependent provinces. The study concludes that expanding education alone is insufficient without addressing provincial labour-market constraints.

Rezilientnost LGBTQ+ mladih v okviru vzgoje in izobraževanja : integrativni pregled literatureNika Ferbežar, Marko Gavriloski Tretjak, 2023, review article Abstract: Vzgojno-izobraževalne ustanove posedujejo velik potencial za zmanjševanje vpliva manjšinskega stresa na življenja mladih LGBTQ+. V članku se osredotočamo na rezilientnost mladih LGBTQ+ v okviru šolskega okolja. Opravljen sistematiziran integrativni pregled literature je zajel 57 empiričnih in teoretičnih kosov gradiva. Kvalitativna vsebinska analiza kaže, da lahko vzgojno-izobraževalne ustanove za učenke_ce LGBTQ+ predstavljajo pomemben vir skupnostnih procesov rezilientnosti, medtem ko je njihova vloga pri krepitvi individualnih procesov rezilientnosti manjša. Kot pomembna so se izkazala tudi področja, ki niso neposredno vezana na šolsko polje, a je v okviru le-teh za optimalen razvoj mladih LGBTQ+ zaželena zavzetost šolskega strokovnega osebja.

4. Adolescents’ attitudes toward educational and employment status after leaving residential care : the case of SloveniaJovita Pogorevc, Tina Štemberger, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: This study examines adolescents’ attitudes toward education and employment following their departure from residential care (RC) centers. Data were collected from adolescents currently residing in RC centers through a structured questionnaire, which addressed four key dimensions: (i) negative attitudes toward further schooling, (ii) passive attitudes toward job searching, (iii) active job searching and (iv) aspirations for independence. A total of 95 participants took part in the study. Overall, the findings indicate that adolescents generally do not exhibit negative attitudes toward continuing their education. However, female participants demonstrated greater motivation to pursue further schooling compared to their male counterparts, and adults showed a higher readiness for continued education than minors. Respondents also expressed a strong intent to seek employment after leaving RC centers, rejecting reliance on social support. They displayed a preference for securing stable, permanent jobs aligned with their training. Additionally, the participants reported high aspirations for independent living, including securing well-paying jobs, and expressed a strong commitment to achieving these goals. Notably, this aspiration was more pronounced among minors.
