1. Stone panopticum : rethinking on the monumental stone sculpture of the Iron Age HistriMartina Blečić Kavur, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Stone as a durable and symbolic material played a central role in the visual culture and social practices of Histrian communities during the last millennium BCE. This paper examines the fragmented stone sculpture from Nesactium (Croatia), focussing on its meaning, function and cultural context. Using the concepts of material agency and object biography, it shows how these monuments, in addition to their monumentality, structured space and belonging, shaped collective memory and social identities as well as ideological forms of expression and representation. Nesactium sculpture thus emerges as a visually articulated social practice with a multi-layered and multifunctional role within the community. Their production testifies to a high level of artisanship and strong links to the Italo-Adriatic cultural sphere. 2. Processing and mounting phlebotomine sand flies : a consensus guidelineFano José Randrianambinintsoa, Laure Augendre, Jorian Prudhomme, Jean-Philippe Martinet, Mathieu Loyer, Nalia Mekarnia, Hocine Kerkoub, Farzana Khan Perveen, Antoine Huguenin, Vladimir Ivović, 2026, pregledni znanstveni članek Opis: This article provides a comprehensive guide for the processing and mounting of phlebotomine sand fly specimens, which is crucial for species identification and pathogen detection and isolation. It discusses a range of techniques suitable for both field and laboratory settings. The guide includes detailed instructions on sand fly collec- tion, handling, covering, and euthanasia (recommending dry freezing or CO2 over chemicals) as well as conservation strategies, such as cold storage and preservation in ethanol. The quality of preparation of certain anatomical structures (genital organs, head and wings) is essential for their proper microscopic observation and is described in this work. The article also presents detailed sample processing, including the clearing process with agents such as potassium hydrox- ide then Marc-André solution. The mounting process compares different media, emphasizing their optical properties and preservation potential. Hoyer fluid (also known as chloral gum) is recommended for quick observation, particularly for spermathecae, due to its clarity, although it is not suitable for long-term storage. Other media discussed include polyvinyl alcohol, EuparalÒ (for limited water tolerance), and Canada balsam (a hydrocarbon-soluble medium), with the latter two offering long-term preservation capabilities. Innovative molecular biology approaches such as DNA sequencing and MALDI-ToF, which require particular attention to sample processing, are also addressed. Furthermore, short video clips illustrating various mounting techniques as well as translations in many different languages are provided, allowing the guideline to reach the diverse needs and expectations of the global scientific community. 3. The Sarajevo Period of Dane Škerl’s Artistic ActivityFatima Hadžić, 2026, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji Opis: Dane Škerl (Ljubljana, 1931–Bovec, 2002) was a Slovenian composer, conductor and professor. He graduated in Composition in 1952 from the Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana in the class of Lucijan Marija Škerjanc. Afterwards, Škerl headed for further specialisation to Austria and Germany, where he was active as a conductor and music teacher. From 1960 to 1970, he worked at the Academy of Music in Sarajevo as a professor, after which he returned to Slovenia, where he worked as a professor of composition at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana until his retirement in 1995. The paper strives to describe and contextualise the Škerl’s 10 years of activity in the cultural life of Sarajevo, with special reference to his activity as a composer in terms of the compositional technique and stylistic tendencies. Besides his pedagogical role, he was strongly involved in the social and cultural life of Sarajevo as a collaborator with Radio Sarajevo (serving as advisor, recording engineer, and conductor), a member of various juries, forums, and associations, and artistic councils – particularly with the Opera and the Sarajevo Philharmonic. During this period, Škerl composed over 20 works, mostly symphonic, concertante and vocal-instrumental. The genre diversity of the Škerl’s opus is emphasised through directing the focus of analytical attention to three compositions written in three different points of time, showing the evolution of his compositional style: Pet skladb [Five Pieces] for clarinet and string orchestra (1961), Symphony No. 2 (1963) and Bagatele [Bagatelles] for piano (1968), indicating the persistence of the Neoclassical orientation as a firm stylistic ground based on an evident adherence to a particular harmonic centre and thematic way of shaping the material, but also the emergence of expressionistic tendencies manifested through serialism. Although Škerl remained faithful to the “middle path” between the tendencies, it is important to consider the historical context: since neither Bosnian-Herzegovinian composers nor those from the other Yugoslav republics had strongly expressed contemporary, much less avant-garde tendencies at the time, during the Sarajevo artistic period Škerl demonstrated boldness by opening new perspectives in musical composition and contributing to the burgeoning trend of musical experimentation. 4. The Composer’s Association of Macedonia in the past and present : combining professionalism and nationalityNataša Didenko, 2026, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji Opis: With the establishment of the Composers Association of Macedonia in 1947 in Skopje as an artistic professional organisation, the construction and development of Macedonian musical creativity began. The challenges posed by different historical periods have encouraged the Composers Association of Macedonia to undertake various activities in order to stimulate the development of musical creation and science, but also to define the importance of its members in the preservation and promotion of Macedonian musical culture. Hence, in the paper, through the methods of historical, analytical and comparative research, we gain knowledge about the constant growth of the Composers Association of Macedonia, which over the past eight decades has been a driver of musical life in Macedonia and a focal point of progressive creative ideas. 5. The Emergence of the Iron Age in Osor Through Representative Material CultureMartina Blečić Kavur, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Situated at a strategically important position within the Cres–Lošinj archipelago, Osor developed during later prehistory into a (proto)urban settlement and became one of the key centres of the Kvarner region and the northern Adriatic. This research is based on a typological-stylistic, and comparative analysis of published and previously unpublished attire and jewellery finds from three cemeteries, considering their archaeological context and funerary practices. Special emphasis is placed on the types of artefacts identified and their integration into patterns of Iron Age social practices in the Adriatic and wider European regions. The analysis draws on data from archival, systematic, and rescue archaeological investigations, as well as the results of recent absolute dating and bioarchaeological studies. The aim of the paper is to expand the concept of Osor’s archaeology of death through an analysis of representative material culture from closed grave assemblages dating to the initial phase of the Early Iron Age, and to examine its role in the construction of social structures, identities, and networks of interaction. The results indicate internal social differentiation and regional and supra-regional cultural connections, thereby confirming Osor’s role as an important node of interaction between the 10th and 8th centuries BCE. 6. Narcissism in postmodern society and schools : the influence of neoliberal values on the behavioral patterns of children and adolescentsBeno Arnejčič, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Abstract This article examines narcissism as a cultural and educational problem in late-modern societies, arguing that neoliberal values— competition, performativity, and market-like evaluations shape children’s and adolescents’ self-understanding and behavior. Drawing on cultural and psychosocial perspectives (Lasch, Fromm, Twenge and Campbell, Verhaeghe, and Vesna V. Godina), the paper conceptualizes narcissism less as an individual pathology and more as a socially produced pattern of relating to oneself and others. Schools are approached as microcosms where broader cultural imperatives become daily practices through grading, comparison, and status competition, which may intensify external validation seeking and reduce empathic engagement. Two divergent student responses are highlighted: grandiose self-presentation, often linked to aggression under ego threat, and egoistic withdrawal, characterized by self-suppression and fear of standing out. The article concludes by outlining educational strategies that strengthen community, dialogue, and social-emotional learning as protective factors against narcissistic dynamics.
