1. Personal constructions of effective (health) coaching relationshipsMelanie Oeben, Daša Grajfoner, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Understanding what makes coaching relationships effective remains underexplored in coaching psychology. This study applies Personal Construct Psychology and the Repertory Grid Technique to examine how coaches and clients construe effective (health) coaching relationships. Forty-two participants generated 424 constructs analysed through principal component and content analyses, yielding 27 thematic categories. Relational constructs - especially relationship depth, trust, openness, and self-determination—proved central. Findings show effectiveness is individually and contextually constructed. The study demonstrates the method's applicability as an idiographic, constructivist approach and offers foundations for theory development and practical insights for cultivating trust-based coaching relationships aligned with clients’ constructions of effectiveness. 2. Data from the Researcher Mental Health Observatory STAIRCASE SurveyJana Lasser, Stefan T. Mol, Alja Čontala, Ana Slavec, Andreja Zulim de Swarte, Anna Khachatryan, Anna Maria Eleuteri, Anupoma Haque, Baiba Jansone, Blerina Vrenozi, Mateja Erce Paoli, 2026, drugi znanstveni članki Opis: The data presented here derives from the Sustainable Working Conditions in Academia survey (STAIRCASE) on researcher mental health. The survey addresses the ongoing mental health crisis in academia by providing comprehensive, multilevel data on researcher well-being and its structural determinants. We employed a cross- sectional between-participant study design to collect data from 4,296 researchers between September 15, 2023, and August 26, 2024. The sample, which primarily includes researchers based in European countries, has a mean age of 38.1 years (SD = 10.7) and consists of 63.7% female participants. Participants provided data on key mental health outcomes – including depression, anxiety, stress, burnout, and well- being – alongside detailed assessments of working conditions, leadership behavior, and organizational characteristics. The dataset facilitates a holistic, multilevel investigation of academic mental health beyond individual risk factors by including the individual, leadership, institutional, and national context. By enabling analyses across hierarchical levels this dataset provides the necessary evidence to identify systemic drivers of mental (ill) health and inform the development of effective, system-wide strategies for meaningful change in academic work environments. 4. Roma in the healthcare system : experiences of healthcare professionalsDebora Levstik Jašarevič, Andrej Kočevar, Daša Petrič, Mirko Prosen, Sabina Ličen, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Introduction. The Roma community faces numerous challenges in accessing health services, including language barriers, discrimination, low health literacy, and social exclusion. Aim. The aim of the research was to examine the experiences of health professionals in treating Roma patients, with a focus on communication, cultural differences, and access to health services. Special emphasis was also placed on the presence of antigypsyism in the healthcare system. Methods. The research was based on a qualitativedescriptive design. The sample included 15 healthcare workers with experience in treating Roma patients, primarily from the Dolenjska region. Data were collected through semi-structured individual interviews conducted between November and December 2024. The results were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results. Thematic analysis identified four themes: (1) Cultural characteristics of the Roma community, (2) Healthcare of Roma, (3) Interpersonal relationships between healthcare workers and Roma, (4) Communication with Roma. The results show that language barriers, low health literacy, and cultural differences are the main challenges in the treatment of Roma patients. Healthcare workers highlighted the use of “Roma helpers” – cultural mediators, communication adaptations, and educational workshops as successful strategies. Conclusion. The research highlights the importance of intercultural competences for improving healthcare for the Roma community. Healthcare professionals identified key strategies for addressing antigypsyism, such as patience, building trust, involving Roma cultural mediators, and organising targeted workshops. These strategies align with current guidelines, as they are based on respect, inclusion, and co-design of services with the Roma community. The findings can contribute to the development of tailored programmes that promote inclusion and reduce health inequalities. 5. Religion, spirituality, and health values among young adults in Slovenia : a qualitative studyMirko Prosen, Mojca Baša, Ines Batista Križaj, Andrejka Presl, Sabina Ličen, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This study explores how young adults in Slovenia perceive religion and spirituality and how they relate these dimensions to health, values, and health-related habits. In modern secular societies, religion and spirituality are increasingly seen as influencing health indirectly, mainly through personal values, identity, and coping strategies. However, little is known about how young adults themselves experience this relationship. A qualitative descriptive approach was used, with data collected through semi-structured interviews with 21 participants aged 18–34. Interviews were conducted in late 2025, recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using thematic analysis supported by Atlas.ti software. The trustworthiness of the study was ensured through established qualitative research criteria. Five key themes emerged: personal perspectives on religion and spirituality, the influence of family and socio-cultural environment, religion as a source of moral values, perceptions of the relationship between religion and health, and the role of religion in coping with stress and supporting mental well-being. Participants generally viewed religion as a personal and selective aspect of life with limited influence on physical health behaviors. Instead, its importance was mainly related to mental well-being and stress management. The findings indicate that religion and spirituality functioned primarily as psychosocial resources rather than direct determinants of health behaviors among young adults in Slovenia. 6. Health and well-being of military nurses in high-reliability, high-stress environments : a qualitative study in the slovenian armed forcesZlatko Kvržić, Mirko Prosen, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Aim: To investigate how female military nurses experience high-reliability, high-stress environments and how these conditionsshape their well-being.Background: Military nursing involves complex demands that extend beyond clinical care, including dual professional roles, operational unpredictability, and gendered expectations. These pressures can undermine physical, psychological, and social well-being, yet the lived experiences of military nurses, particularly women, remain underexplored.Design: A qualitative descriptive design was used. Methods: Ten female military nurses were recruited through purposive sampling and interviewed individually in semi-structuredonline interviews. Data were analysed using qualitative content analysis. Trustworthiness was ensured through reflexive coding,an audit trail, and adherence to COREQ guidelines. Results: Five overarching categories captured the factors shaping well-being: organisational and structural demands; high-stressoperational environments; emotional and psychological burden; coping and resilience; and gendered identity and work–familybalance. Participants described constrained autonomy, communication gaps, and role ambiguity within hierarchical structures.Psychological pressures were heightened by moral tensions, responsibility for colleagues, and expectations of emotional control.Coping relied mainly on informal peer support, as formal services were rarely used due to stigma. Gendered norms and familyresponsibilities further influenced well-being and career decisions. Conclusion: Military nurse well-being is shaped less by individual resilience and more by organisational culture, operationaldemands, and gendered expectations. Addressing these systemic factors is essential for sustaining the military nursing workforce.Implication for Nursing: Strengthening leadership support, communication, psychological safety, and professional autonomymay improve working conditions and support nurses’ well-being in demanding operational contexts.Implications for Health Policy: Policies should promote supportive organisational cultures, reduce stigma around help-seeking,and facilitate work–family reconciliation to sustain and retain the military nursing workforce. 7. Carbon and nitrogen isotopic analysis of the Middle/Late Bronze individuals from Bezdanjača Cave, Lika region, CroatiaMario Carić, Emily Zavodny, Mario Novak, Ivor Janković, Siniša Radović, Sarah B. McClure, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Almost immediately upon its discovery in 1965, the Middle-Late Bronze Age cave site of Bezdanjača was recognized as one of the earliest, largest, and most important cemeteries in the Lika region of Croatia. Yet, despite its significance, not much is known about the people who were buried there. By combining bioarchaeological and stable carbon and nitrogen isotope analyses of a subset of the burial population, this study aims to (i) systematically reconstruct the diet and health of these individuals, (ii) investigate possible differences in dietary habits within this community based on sex and age, and (iii) contextualize results from Bezdanjača with other Bronze Age assemblages from the surrounding area. 8. Occupational and non-occupational device-measured movement behaviours and low back pain : a compositional isotemporal substitution analysisKaja Kastelic, Nejc Šarabon, Michael David Burnard, Željko Pedišić, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Background: Physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and sleep were shown to be independently associated with low back pain (LBP). The aim of this cross-sectional study was to explore the associations between 24-hour movement behaviour compositions and the occurrence, severity, and estimated level of LBP impact on an individual’s life. Methods: A convenience sample of 197 adults (40% females, 37 ± 11 years of age) were asked to wear an activPAL accelerometer for at least 7 consecutive days to assess their time-use composition consisting of moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA), light- intensity physical activity (LPA), sedentary behaviour (SB), and sleep and to complete a questionnaire on LBP and sociodemographic characteristics. Compositional isotemporal substitution analyses were conducted separately for the non-domain-specific and domain- specific (including occupational and non-occupational domains) movement behaviour compositions. Results: Reallocating time from MVPA to any other movement behaviour or from sleep to LPA was associated with a higher LBP impact score. For example, reallocating 60 min/day from MVPA to LPA was associated with on average 17 points (95% CI: 6 to 28) higher LBP impact score (on a 0-70 scale). We did not find significant associations between the domain- specific time-use composition and LBP impact score (p = 0.060). We also did not find significant associations of the time-use compositions with occurrence and severity of LBP (p- value range: 0.067 to 0.649). Conclusion: Our study suggests that LBP sufferers with higher MVPA and sleep better cope with LBP. The differences in the LBP impact scores associated with theoretical reallocations between movement behaviours may be deemed clinically important. Future longitudinal and experimental studies in population-representative samples are needed to confirm our findings. 9. A Bibliometric Perspective on Health, Medical, and Wellness Tourism Research : Trends, Themes, and Future DirectionsTayfun Arar, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Although medical tourism, wellness tourism, and health tourism have expanded significantly in recent decades, research has often addressed them separately, limiting comprehensive understanding of their shared development, particularly in response to global health disruptions. This study addresses that gap by conducting a unified bibliometric analysis that maps the thematic evolution, intellectual foundations, and collaboration patterns across health-oriented tourism. A total of 1,717 peer-reviewed articles published between 1974 and 2025 were retrieved through title-based searches from Scopus and Web of Science. Data were cleaned, merged, and analysed using the Biblioshiny 4.0 platform, with performance metrics, co-occurrence networks, thematic mapping, and international collaboration examined. The study also compares recent patterns with earlier bibliometric research to assess the continuity and divergence in the field’s development. The analysis yields three key findings. First, academic interest surged post-2010, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic. Second, thematic clusters show a shift from treatment-focused medical tourism/health tourism toward wellness, mental health, and preventive care, suggesting a broader emphasis on proactive well-being. Third, co-authorship analysis reveals regionally concentrated networks with limited integration between Global North and South researchers. Theoretically, the study contributes to the Push-Pull Theory of Travel Motivation by integrating health-specific drivers such as affordability, safety, risk perception, and psychological well-being. It also adds to crisis-sensitive tourism literature by linking global disruptions to evolving motivational structures. Practically, the findings provide actionable insights for policymakers and destination managers seeking to align services with shifting post-pandemic traveller priorities and to reposition health-focused destinations in a more resilient global tourism economy. 10. Health and performance challenges in the era of human enhancement : insights from sport medicine professionalsKe Hu, Mark R. Hutchinson, Emin Ergen, Norbert Bachl, Petra Zupet, Bertrand Fincoeur, Anca Ionescu, Borja Muniz-Pardos, Andrea Petroczi, Yannis Pitsiladis, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Background In the pursuit of sporting success, some elite athletes prioritise peak performance over long-term health, frequently resulting in significant and enduring health consequences. The Enhanced Games (TEG) position themselves as a bold experiment in transhumanism, advocating for the use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs), including methods banned by World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), to push the boundaries of human athletic potential. Objectives The aim of this study is to explore the perspectives of sport physicians, sport scientists, physiotherapists and other allied healthcare professionals on treating and supporting “enhanced athletes”, with the view of informing future guidelines. Methods Participants were invited via email and personal contacts within sport medicine communities to complete a brief anonymous survey via QuestionPro™. Descriptive statistics were performed using Excel™ and RStudio™. Results A total of 323 healthcare professionals responded (82% were sport physicians), among whom 74% expressed a willingness to treat acute lesions and/or chronic diseases in “enhanced athletes”. In comparison, a considerable minority (30%) expressed support for assisting athletes in their use of PEDs and methods under medically supervised conditions, with high consistency across professional roles. A relatively high readiness was observed in sport physicians treating acute (77% versus 58%; p < 0.01) and chronic (75% versus 63%; p = 0.11) diseases for “enhanced athletes”. As far as WADA rules and/or national anti-doping laws apply, this support presupposes compliance with the code and the respective national laws to protect physicians from serious professional, legal and personal consequences. Conclusion The preliminary findings align with the broader goal of fostering a sport culture that values both peak performance and the short- and long-term health of all participants. These results emphasise the necessity of implementing professional guidelines and comprehensive support systems designed to safeguard the long-term well-being of all athletes and underscore the urgent need for further research into the impact of TEG on sport and its community.
