1. Between Music and Politics : The Role of Composers in Musical Societies in Continental Croatia in the 19th CenturyPetra Babić, 2026, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji Opis: The 19th century in Croatia was the time of the first institutionalisation of musical culture – the first music institutes were organised, as well as the first music schools (independent of the “main schools”), and somewhat later numerous music societies (singing, instrumental, mixed). The dynamics of their emergence is closely linked to the contemporary political situation, and the activity within a particular society itself – in terms of public engagement – meant more than just enjoying desirable entertainment, finding solace in music making or the possibility of making musical education more accessible to wider social strata. This paper will present different types of music societies/associations founded throughout the 19th century in continental Croatia, examine the dependence of their establishment in relation to the then ruling political authorities, and in particular examine the perception and role of composers in those societies. The research for this paper was financed by the Croatian Science Foundation with project IP-2020-02- 4277 “Institutionalization of modern bourgeois musical culture in the 19th century in civil Croatia and Military Border – MusInst19”.

2. Institutional work in total institutions and the perspective of the persons that have lived in residential treatment institutionsMitja Krajnčan, Boštjan Bajželj, 2015, strokovni članek Opis: Institutional work includes all kinds of psychosocial assistance that offers, to people that need them, living environments and immediate environments adapted to their age, problems, disorders, and state. The diversity and dilemmas of institutional work represent the central theoretical discourse that the authors are researching in the explanations of the total institution, the exact answers regarding the help the youth that involuntarily find themselves in such institutions receive. The continued development of the discourse logically proceeds into deinstitutionalisation. Semi-structured interviews of adults that have spent their youth in such institutions represent the empirical part of the research. Extreme psychosocial pressures make the youth deviate away from goal orientation and the purpose of the institutions% operations. So, additionally, the authors have gathered a collection of good and bad experiences to bring attention to the many imperfections that should not be self-evident. The key problems that people that have stayed in such institutions a decade ago would like to give light to are the non-existence of logic and specific learning and practical competences that would benefit them in the life outside of the institution. They also stressed the lack of using the quality relations that had been established in the institution as support in post-treatment.

7. The great divide revisitedValentina Dimitrova-Grajzl, 2007, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The former socialist countries of South East and Central Europe exhibit great variation in institutional quality. Unlike the sparse existing literature, I claim that the variation can be explained by the legacies of the Ottoman and Habsburg Empires. I identify historical legacies of the Empires, which have affected the current institutional quality of the successor states. I show empirically that the Empires' legacies are key determinants of institutional quality, and that the Habsburg successors have institutions that are more efficient in a market economy than the Ottoman successors. In contrast, I findan insignificant effect of socialism on institutional quality.

The Ottoman economic legacy on the BalkansValentina Dimitrova-Grajzl, 2007, drugi sestavni deli Opis: When discussing South East Europe, the Ottoman Empire stands out in history asa prime candidate for an inquiry on historical path-dependence of institutions in the region. This paper analyzes the historical origins of the Ottoman legacy and identifies the legacy with particular pertinence to the economic performance of the South East European states. It distinguishes the legacy in relation to social values and beliefs as the one, which has had the most persistent and profound effect on the Ottoman successor states' paths of economic development.
