Can immersion protect us from distraction? : The impact of real-world distractions on learning in augmented reality
Klen Čopič Pucihar, Karolina Trajkovska, Anuradhi Maheshya W. Weerasinghe Arachchillage, Ali Waqas, Douglas A. Parry, Daniel B. Le Roux, Matjaž Kljun, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: While many digital distractions can be managed, real-world interruptions, such as phone calls, notifications, and office noise, are harder to control and can harm productivity, well-being, and learning. Mixed reality systems like Augmented Reality (AR) are often described as immersive—a property which might protect users from such disruptions. We tested this assumption by comparing a head-mounted AR interface that overlays digital annotations on physical objects with a traditional flat screen during vocabulary learning under common office distractions. In a user study (n = 32), AR users reported feeling less distracted and recalled less task-irrelevant information, but their learning performance did not improve. Instead, distraction-related performance decline was greater in AR. Physiological and self-report measures showed no reduction in effort or workload, and participants with higher auditory distractibility did not benefit. Overall, AR annotation alone may not sufficiently shield learners from real-world distractions, motivating new design approaches.

Time-money segment differences in ideation and collaboration readiness in sustainable tourism education
Dejan Križaj, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This study examines whether tourism students’ self-reported time–money use patterns are related to their readiness to collaborate on idea development, and whether sustain- ability emerges spontaneously in their tourism innovation ideas. Using an anonymised dataset of open-ended questionnaire responses from Slovenian higher education tourism students (N = 597; 2019–2025), we applied deterministic rule-based coding to classify the presence of actionable ideas and sustainability framing, as well as collaboration readiness and conditions. Actionable ideas were common (53.4%), but sustainability framing was uncommon (7.5%). Most respondents were unconditionally willing to collaborate (69.3%), while 30.7% expressed conditional willingness or unwillingness. Time–money behavioural segments were significantly associated with collaboration reservations, whereas segment differences in ideation and sustainability framing were not significant. Among students expressing reservations, topic match and perceived team quality were the most frequently stated conditions. These findings indicate that sustainability-oriented tourism education should support both sustainability integration and low-risk collaboration through clear project briefs, topic-based matching, and team-process supports. The conclusions should be interpreted with reasonable caution as they are context-specific evidence based on self- reported, rule-coded responses, particularly for sustainability framing, where positive cases were rare. In this context, segmentation should be regarded as a diagnostic tool for course design rather than as a basis for labelling students.

Prosthetic memory and film-induced dark tourism in the specific post-conflict context : a divergent young adults’ perspective
Metod Šuligoj, Jasna Hartman, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The present postmodernist study explores how widely accessible films depicting tragic historical sites/events influence prosthetic memories and film-induced dark tourism among Western Balkan (the ‘region of memory’) young adult new-age platform users with no personal war experience. A heterogeneous list of ten internation - ally known historical films, compiled with the help of informants, was the basis for discussion in three nationally diverse focus groups (Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian- Herzegovinian) and then compared with a comparison group from a less stressed environment. The results of the content analysis with triangulation are discussed, and explaining the missing prosthetic memory, factual knowledge and film-induced dark tourism nexus among young adults in a peculiarly toxic post-conflict atmosphere. The study thus identifies historical film and dark tourism abstainers and explains deviations not pre - viously reported in studies of the above concepts, taking into account the specific social environment and age group.

Machine learning identifies distinct movement control impairment clusters in patients with chronic neck pain
Živa Majcen Rošker, Jernej Rošker, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: atients with chronic neck pain experience various impairments, with reduced movement control suggested as a significant contributing factor. The heterogeneity of this patient population and suboptimal rehabilitation outcomes suggests the existence of latent subgroup characteristics. The aim of this study was to identify distinct groups among patients with neck pain based on the movement control test and pain intensity and to provide information on cluster-specific impairments. 135 patients with idiopathic neck pain performed a movement control test (the Butterfly test) at three difficulty levels and were assessed for pain intensity, providing 13 different parameters (classifiers). Louvain, hierarchical and k-means clustering methods were applied and the number of clusters determined by observing the symmetry and size of silhouette scores. Further, different machine learning algorithms were applied to develop and evaluate a classification framework (based on AUC, classification accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity) and to provide information on individual cluster characteristics using the Shapley Additive Explanations. The k-means and deep learning neural network methods provided the most efficient clustering and classification performance extracting 4 meaningful clusters. Patients between groups differed in the amount of impairment, with cluster 2 and 1 representing the most severe impairments and with clusters 3 and 4 the least severe impairments. Additionally, specific motor control impairments were observed in individual clusters suggesting distinct neck movement control adaptations. Identifying subgroups of patients with neck pain and their specific characteristics based on the results of the Butterfly test may inform future development of targeted rehabilitation strategies.

Teaching for Impact, Not Intention : How Course Design Converts Learning into Community Action
Alenka Slavec Gomezel, Barbara Hvalič Erzetič, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Teaching social entrepreneurship encourages students to consider societal challenges, yet course participation alone rarely leads to sustained engagement. This article presents a practice-based instructional model developed at the School of Economics and Business at the University of Ljubljana, which positions the course as an enabling environment for personal transformation and action. Through experiential learning, collaboration with social enterprises, and structured reflection, students strengthen their values, confidence, and sense of agency. Follow-up interviews with five alumni show that this pedagogical design contributed to continued involvement in volunteering, community initiatives, and social enterprise creation. The article offers transferable design principles and practical tools for educators aiming to foster real-world social impact beyond the classroom.

Narcissism in postmodern society and schools : the influence of neoliberal values on the behavioral patterns of children and adolescents
Beno Arnejčič, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Abstract This article examines narcissism as a cultural and educational problem in late-modern societies, arguing that neoliberal values— competition, performativity, and market-like evaluations shape children’s and adolescents’ self-understanding and behavior. Drawing on cultural and psychosocial perspectives (Lasch, Fromm, Twenge and Campbell, Verhaeghe, and Vesna V. Godina), the paper conceptualizes narcissism less as an individual pathology and more as a socially produced pattern of relating to oneself and others. Schools are approached as microcosms where broader cultural imperatives become daily practices through grading, comparison, and status competition, which may intensify external validation seeking and reduce empathic engagement. Two divergent student responses are highlighted: grandiose self-presentation, often linked to aggression under ego threat, and egoistic withdrawal, characterized by self-suppression and fear of standing out. The article concludes by outlining educational strategies that strengthen community, dialogue, and social-emotional learning as protective factors against narcissistic dynamics.

Image-based analysis of tourist destination perceptions : a deep learning and spatial–temporal study in Slovenia
Dejan Paliska, Aleksandra Brezovec, Gorazd Sedmak, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In the context of fierce competition among tourist destinations and increasing difficulty of differentiation, developing a strong destination image is particularly important. A comprehensive understanding of how tourists perceive destinations through user-generated images can help destination management organizations (DMOs) design more effective marketing strategies. This is especially relevant for destinations with spatially and temporally dispersed tourism resources and strong seasonal dynamics. This paper analyses inbound tourist photographs by combining deep learning techniques with spatial analysis to examine the spatial and temporal distribution of photo scenes and shifts in scene preferences among tourists. The study focuses on three distinct types of destinations in Slovenia—urban (Ljubljana), nature-based/alpine (Bled), and coastal (Piran, Izola, Koper)—providing insights into how image-based spatial scene analysis can inform destination marketing strategies. The results reveal significant spatial and temporal heterogeneity of scenes across micro destinations. Nature-based destinations exhibit lower topic entropy and fewer topic changes per user, whereas urban destinations show higher variability, with users changing topics on average five times per day. Seasonal effects are moderate: nature-based destinations display lower topic entropy in winter and higher in autumn and spring, coastal destinations show less pronounced seasonal variation, and urban destinations show almost none. These findings provide valuable insights into the spatial and temporal distribution of tourist interests and offer practical guidance for DMOs in strategic marketing planning.
