Vibration perception threshold as a method for detecting diabetic peripheral neuropathy : a systematic review of measurement characteristics
Danijela Ribič, Nejc Šarabon, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is one of the most common complications of diabetes mellitus (DM), leading to sensory loss, balance disturbances, and an increased risk of ulcers and amputations. Early screening is crucial, and devices for measuring vibration perception threshold (VPT) play an important role in the timely detection and management of this condition. Objective: The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and reliability of VPT measurement devices in individuals with DM. Methods: A systematic search was conducted in four databases, including studies that assessed the diagnostic accuracy and reliability of VPT measurement devices in patients with type 1 or type 2 DM, with VPT compared against reference standards for DPN, including nerve conduction studies (NCS) and clinical diagnosis. Cross-sectional and case–control studies were included. Risk of bias was assessed using the Quality Appraisal of Reliability (QAREL) tool and the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist for Diagnostic Test Accuracy Studies. Results: Eighteen studies were analyzed. Most studies demonstrated moderate sensitivity and specificity and an acceptable level of reliability, with results varying according to technical and methodological factors. Conclusions: VPT measurement devices appear to be useful screening tools for detecting DPN; however, their diagnostic accuracy and reliability are not uniform and largely depend on technical and methodological factors. Standardized threshold values and measurement procedures, along with further research comparing the effectiveness of different protocols, are needed to improve clinical utility.

General interaction battery : simple object navigation and affordances (GIBSONA)
Danaja Rutar, Alva Markelius, Wout Schellaert, José Hernández-Orallo, Lucy Cheke, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Perception of affordances is an agent’s capability to identify what action-possibilities exist with a particular object or set of objects, based on its own physical properties and capacities. This capability has been well explored in psychology because perception of affordances provides the basis for understanding and interacting with the world. For the same reason, affordance perception is also crucial for AI research. Most approaches to evaluating AI are task-oriented which means that they are geared towards evaluating aggregate performance on a specific set of tasks, rather than focusing on the nature and degree of underlying capabilities that drive task performance. An alternative approach to measuring performance in AI is capability-oriented evaluation, which aims to measure robust, task-independent capabilities across different conditions and difficulties. This approach allows not only measurement of performance but also prediction of performance on novel challenges that share the same fundamental demands. In the context of affordances, there are currently no clear guidelines as to how such capability-oriented approach should best be implemented; for example, there is much variation in what perception of affordances entails. Perhaps for this reason, no comprehensive battery of affordances tasks for AI currently exists. Building on this gap, the aims of this paper are to first, lay out some candidate guidelines for the construction of capability-oriented task batteries for embodied AI and second, to construct and present a battery GIBSONA that takes a step towards this goal: Assessing perception of a set of affordances in AI, directly following these guidelines.

Perceived threat of COVID-19 and future travel avoidance : results from an early convenient sample in Slovenia
Maja Turnšek, Boštjan Brumen, Marjetka Rangus, Mitja Gorenak, Janez Mekinc, Tanja Lešnik Štuhec, 2020, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The present study provides a snapshot of Slovenian tourists' perceptions in a historically unique point of time - the early days of the covid-19-related lockdown. Based on an online survey performed in March and April 2020 the study provides first insights into Slovenian tourists% perceived threats of covid-19 on two dimensions: severity and susceptibility; how this depends on their demography and past travel experience and what, in this specific point in time, they think about future travel avoidance. The results have shown that age affects the two measured dimensions of perceived threat and future travel avoidance, but only with women. Furthermore, people who have travelled the most in the past express the least likelihood of avoidance to travel due to the covid -19 pandemic. Those who are more educated, on the other hand, perceive higher risk, yet education has no role in their expressed future travel avoidance. The results, moreover, show that the moral obligation towards taking care of others might be a highly important element in the success factor of covid-19 measures and thus future appeals by the tourism industry. Finally, the results show that we cannot easily predict how the general population will behave regarding their future travel avoidance since the opinions are not polarised in the extremes. This does indicate, however, that tourists will be susceptible to the context-specific factors of future travel decisions, such as assurances of health safety provided by the tourism industry.
