BIM-based wind-driven rain modelling using ISO 15927-3 and geometry-based exposure
Richard Acquah, Jonas Niklewski, Jakub Michal Sandak, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Wind-driven rain (WDR) is a key source of façade moisture risk. ISO 15927-3 estimates WDR using static wall-factor tables, limited in scope and unable to capture façade-specific geometry or sheltering. This study introduces a BIM‑native workflow that dynamically computes wall factor as a geometry‑derived exposure fraction, evaluated per façade cell via ray tracing and power‑law‑based cell‑level height‑scaling factorization. Implemented in Revit, the method automates ISO corrections for terrain, topography, and obstruction, and outputs exposure fraction, wall indices, and catch ratio with façade-resolved visualization. For the cases studies presented, the BIM-Ray Tracing approach (mean absolute errors 0.03–0.06), achieved accuracy close to CFD and outperformed ISO 15927-3 with runtimes suitable for early design. While turbulence and edge recirculation remain better addressed by CFD, the workflow enables exposure mapping, rule-based checks, and integration with ISO 15686 service-life performance analysis.

Start detection in resisted sprinting : a validity and reliability analysis of encoder- and sensor-based methods
Oskar Cvjetičanin, Matic Sašek, Živa Mesec, Nejc Šarabon, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This study evaluated the validity and reliability of start detection methods for determining 5-m sprint time using a resistance device with an encoder. Seventeen recreationally trained participants completed 12 resisted 5-m sprints across two sessions. Sprint start was identified using three encoder-based methods (position, velocity [MEv], and acceleration), a rear-foot release sensor and hip-marker kinematics (KIN) as a proxy for forward center-of-mass displacement. Reliability was evaluated using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), coefficient of variation (CV), typical error (TE), standard error of measurement (SEM), and minimal detectable change (MDC), while agreement was examined using Pearson correlations and Bland-Altman analysis. All methods showed moderate to excellent reliability (ICC = 0.54–0.93; CV ≤ 11.1%) and strong agreement with KIN (r = 0.90–0.94). MEv showed the smallest bias (−0.00 ± 0.07 s) and narrowest 95% limits of agreement, and is therefore preferred for sprint start detection in practical settings.

Corporate social responsibility practices, managerial attitudes toward artificial intelligence, and AI adoption in micro and small restaurant SMEs
Marko Kukanja, Tanja Planinc, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In hospitality SMEs, digital transformation is increasingly linked to sustainability goals. However, evidence on how corporate social responsibility (CSR) relates to the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in owner-managed firms remains limited. This study ex- amines CSR practices, managerial attitudes toward AI, and AI adoption in micro and small restaurant SMEs in a small European Union (EU) economy. Using survey data from 157 Slovenian restaurant SMEs and structural equation modelling, CSR is conceptualised as an enacted, practice-based orientation. At the same time, managerial attitudes toward AI are modelled as the key mechanism preceding adoption. Results reveal an asymmet- ric relationship between CSR and AI. Employee-related CSR practices, which are mainly institutionalised, do not significantly influence managerial AI attitudes. In contrast, en- vironmental CSR practices are negatively associated with AI attitudes, indicating more cautious evaluations among environmentally responsible managers. Managerial attitudes toward AI are positively and significantly associated with AI adoption, confirming their central role in adoption decisions. Financial performance, measured by objective revenue data, does not emerge as a direct outcome of AI adoption but rather operates as a contex- tual condition shaping how CSR practices relate to managerial attitudes and how those attitudes translate into adoption decisions. Overall, the findings indicate that CSR does not uniformly translate into managerial attitudes toward AI and subsequent AI adoption in restaurant SMEs.

From Pitch to Profit : Exploring the Relationship between Sports Performance and Financial Success in Italian Football
Samantha Barresi, 2025, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci

Opis: Football has evolved from a recreational activity into a global industry where economic and sporting objectives are increasingly intertwined. In recent years, the Italian Serie A has faced a dual challenge: maintaining competitiveness on the pitch while ensuring financial sustainability. This study explores the relationship between sporting performance and profitability among Serie A football clubs, considering both domestic league results and participation in European competitions. Drawing on a panel of 167 team-season observations from 2014/2015 to 2022/2023, we employ multivariate regression analysis using three key profitability indicators: return on assets (ROA), EBIT Margin, and Net Profit Margin. Our findings reveal a positive and statistically significant relationship between on-field success and financial performance, particularly in terms of operating and net margins. Moreover, participation in the UEFA Champions League emerges as a relevant factor in increasing club profitability. However, structural inefficiencies such as high wage expenditures and excessive leverage still pose substantial threats to financial health. These insights contribute to the growing body of literature on football finance, offering strategic guidance for club managers seeking to balance sporting ambition with long-term financial performance.

Health and performance challenges in the era of human enhancement : insights from sport medicine professionals
Ke Hu, Mark R. Hutchinson, Emin Ergen, Norbert Bachl, Petra Zupet, Bertrand Fincoeur, Anca Ionescu, Borja Muniz-Pardos, Andrea Petroczi, Yannis Pitsiladis, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background In the pursuit of sporting success, some elite athletes prioritise peak performance over long-term health, frequently resulting in significant and enduring health consequences. The Enhanced Games (TEG) position themselves as a bold experiment in transhumanism, advocating for the use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs), including methods banned by World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), to push the boundaries of human athletic potential. Objectives The aim of this study is to explore the perspectives of sport physicians, sport scientists, physiotherapists and other allied healthcare professionals on treating and supporting “enhanced athletes”, with the view of informing future guidelines. Methods Participants were invited via email and personal contacts within sport medicine communities to complete a brief anonymous survey via QuestionPro™. Descriptive statistics were performed using Excel™ and RStudio™. Results A total of 323 healthcare professionals responded (82% were sport physicians), among whom 74% expressed a willingness to treat acute lesions and/or chronic diseases in “enhanced athletes”. In comparison, a considerable minority (30%) expressed support for assisting athletes in their use of PEDs and methods under medically supervised conditions, with high consistency across professional roles. A relatively high readiness was observed in sport physicians treating acute (77% versus 58%; p < 0.01) and chronic (75% versus 63%; p = 0.11) diseases for “enhanced athletes”. As far as WADA rules and/or national anti-doping laws apply, this support presupposes compliance with the code and the respective national laws to protect physicians from serious professional, legal and personal consequences. Conclusion The preliminary findings align with the broader goal of fostering a sport culture that values both peak performance and the short- and long-term health of all participants. These results emphasise the necessity of implementing professional guidelines and comprehensive support systems designed to safeguard the long-term well-being of all athletes and underscore the urgent need for further research into the impact of TEG on sport and its community.

Effects of different lifting strategies during resistance training on lower body function in untrained adult women : a comparison between 6-weeks of 10% velocity loss and standard resistance training
Matic Sašek, Hana Golob, Nejc Šarabon, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Introduction: This study investigated whether velocity-based resistance training provides additional benefits to lower limb performance compared to standard exercise execution. Methods: Twenty untrained adult women (37–55 years) were randomly assigned to two resistance training groups to perform resistance training with three sets of four lower body exercises per week for 6 weeks. The number of repetitions and lifting velocity differed between the groups. One group performed lower body exercises with maximal intent and a 10% velocity loss threshold termination (VB10%; n = 10), while the other group performed 10 repetitions at a standard 1:2 s concentric:eccentric tempo (STD; n = 10). The number of repetitions was recorded during the sessions. Before and after the intervention, power, muscular endurance and dynamic stability of the lower limbs were assessed using the mean propulsive velocity (MPV) and power (MPP) at 70% one-repetition maximum in the squat and deadlift, the Y-balance test (YBT) and the 30-second sit-to-stand test (STS), respectively. A two-way analysis of variance was used to assess the effects of time, group, and their interaction. Results: The difference between 10 repetitions in the STD and repetitions in the VB10% was assessed using a one-sample t-test. Both groups significantly improved MPP, MPV, YBT and STS [mean difference (MD) ≥5.4%; effect size (ES) ≥0.6]. Although 2.5–2.7 less repetitions were performed in VB10%, the improvements in MPP and MPV were slightly greater (ES ≥ 1.2 vs. ≥ 0.8). Conversely, STS and YBT improved more in STD (ES ≥ 0.4 vs. ≥ 1.0). Discussion: Regardless of the lifting method used, the training intervention improved lower limb power, muscular endurance and dynamic stability, indicating that resistance training is an effective strategy for enhancing these capacities in untrained adult women. Using 10% threshold may be a more time-efficient strategy for improving lower-limb power in this population and could represent a promising approach for mitigating early declines in power over time.

Within-session reliability and comparison in resisted sprint performance with the 1080 Sprint between belt and harness attachment points
Matic Sašek, Nicola Reiner Volk, Nejc Šarabon, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The application of resistance over the shoulder or hips during resisted sprints could influence performance outcomes but has not been thoroughly investigated. This study examined the within-session reliability of sprint performance measures and compared the outcomes of 1080 Sprint device between belt (hips) and harness (shoulders) attachment. Twelve student-athletes completed three 20 m sprints with resistance equivalent to 25% of body mass (14.0 to 24.7 kg). Sprint split times (5 m, 10 m, 15 m, 20 m), peak velocity, and distance at peak velocity were recorded with 1080 Sprint. Within-session reliability was assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC3.1) and coefficients of variation (CV), while differences in performance were analysed using paired t-tests and effect sizes (ES). Reliability was excellent for all variables (ICC3.1≥ 0.93; CV ≤ 3.08 %) except distance at peak velocity, which showed poor reliability (ICC3.1≥ 0.32; CV ≥ 17.2 %). Sprint times and peak velocity were faster with the belt attachment (ES ≥ 0.93), while peak velocity was reached earlier with the harness attachment (ES = 0.65). Both attachment points provided reliable measurements, but the belt consistently resulted in faster 20 m sprint performance. Coaches and practitioners should consider these differences when assessing resisted sprint performance or prescribing training to ensure consistent and individualized loading strategies

Hierarchical pore engineering of lignocellulose-based carbon materials for electric double-layer capacitors
Yanyu Li, Huyan Shen, Yiyan Zhu, Imran Zada, Fang Song, Qinglei Liu, Hui Pan, Shenmin Zhu, Juan Li, Bohumil Kasal, 2025, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: Lignocellulose is an ideal precursor for supercapacitor electrodes due to its diverse structures and abundant availability. For supercapacitors, particularly electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs), pore structure is critical. This review summarizes advances in lignocellulose-derived hierarchical porous carbon (LHPC) for supercapacitors, focusing on pore structure and future research directions. We discuss how pore structure influences supercapacitor performance, the activation methods for creating pores in LHPC, and review studies on optimizing pore structure for high-performance supercapacitors. Hierarchical porous carbon should feature a sufficient micropore surface area along with suitable mesoporous and macroporous surfaces to enhance rate performance while maintaining capacitance. This review is expected to actively advance the selection of lignocellulosic precursors and the development of optimized pore structure models, with the ultimate goal of enabling efficient production of lignocellulose-derived hierarchical porous carbon electrodes with superior properties.
