Social robots in the elementary classroom enter the human sphere in the critical period of child’s development. Social robotic educational technology, designed for long-term emotional connections and relationships, raises questions in the pedagogic relations and interaction. Research on teacher perceptions and readiness is deficient. This paper reports analyses of aspects of child-social robot interaction are of concern to pre-service teachers from China, Russia and Slovenia. Findings indicate that at the heart of participating pre-service teachers in China, Russia and Slovania concerns are authenticity and humanness. Our findings show their concerns are mainly rooted in the belief that the robot shouldnot acquire the ability to perform authentic interactions nor should undertake a teaching roles. There is a widespread agreement among participants from three cultural contexts that teachers remain essential in educational contexts. In contrast, concerns related to social Interaction indicate notable group differences. The article highlights the teacher’s responsible planning and use of artificial intelligence educational technology.

2. How to prevent technological issues and maximise technologies acceptance by users before implementing large-scale pilots : pre-validation within the Horizon 2020 Pharaon projectIsabelle Lesterpt, Erika Rovini, Filippo Cavallo, Mateja Erce Paoli, Maria-Victoria Bueno-Delgado, Francisco José Melero Muñoz, Elisabete Pitarma, Femke Nijboer, Mariana Camacho, Ana Perandrés-Gòmez, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Background In the context of an ageing population, technological and digital solutions are increasingly emerging in the market to facilitate active and healthy ageing. However, several factors can hinder the acceptance of the solutions by the users. Indeed, during the development of digital solutions, future users are generally involved only when a Large-Scale Pilot is set up. It implies around 1 year and more than 100 people involved and it costs money. Moreover, if technical problems appear during the using of the solutions, the acceptance of it is sub-optimal or even degraded. Methods This paper presents the pre-validation approach developed and executed within the Pharaon European project to pre-evaluate digital solutions before to put in place the planned Large-Scale Pilots (LSP). 1 This pre-validation was defined as a Small-Scale Pilot involving a minimum of 5 users per type (e.g. older adults, caregivers, health professional) during a short period of time (2-hour sessions with users). The process was composed of different steps: 1/ pre-validation of individual technologies; 2/ pre-validation of technologies integration in each pilot platform; 3/ pre-validation of new technologies coming from the Pharaon Open Call. Moreover, 2 types of pre-validation were conducted at the same time: 1/ technological; 2/ willingness to use the digital solutions. A common protocol was delivered to all pilot sites, 2 questionnaires were used for collecting quantitative and qualitative results and the open platform Gitlab was used to report the technical issues. Results The pre-validation was conducted over 6 months in 6 pilot sites with more than 200 users and allowed to highlight 109 technical issues and mixed results concerning the acceptance of using technologies. The qualitative part of the results allowed to notice the needed improvements before setting up the LSP.

5. Using inquiry-based learning for developing university students’ digital skillsMojca Žefran, Silva Bratož, 2025, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji Opis: In recent years, the development of digital skills has been encouraged at all levels of education. For this purpose, innovative pedagogies and approaches aimed at fostering learners’ active participation, critical skills, and autonomy have been proposed. In this paper, we focus on the benefits of using the inquiry-based approach (IBL) for developing education students’ digital skills. A design-based study was conducted with a group of students (n=38) in the primary education study programme with a view to identifying students’ attitudes towards IBL as well as their experiences and challenges encountered in the process. The design-based scenario followed the 5E inquiry-based instructional model (engagement, exploration, explanation, elaboration, and evaluation). Data for this study was gathered through an online survey, a focus group discussion, and through an in-depth analysis of the IBL scenario. The results indicate that students hold positive attitudes towards IBL. The most significant challenge identified was the application of critical thinking skills to locate and evaluate relevant research sources.

8. Pre-service teachers' attitude towards learning and teaching English to young learnersSilva Bratož, 2015, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Considerable attention has recently been invested into researching the influence of affective variables, such as attitudes and motivation on foreign language learning and teaching. The topic is timely and relevant especially at the time when English is being introduced as an obligatory subject in the first cycle of primary school in Slovenia. Two key issues are addressed: attitudes towards learning and teaching English as a foreign language and the profile of the young learners' language teacher. The article presents the results of a small-scale research conducted with a group of primary education students on their attitudes towards learning and teaching English. The results suggest that trainee teachers have moderately positive attitudes towards learning English but diverse attitudes towards teaching a foreign language.

9. Metaphors in political discourse from a cross-cultural perspectiveSilva Bratož, 2014, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The paper focuses on various ways in which metaphors in political discourse reflect the cultural and linguistic environments from which they emerge. It discusses conceptual metaphors and their linguistic realisations in popular pre-election discourse in English, German, and three Euro-Mediterranean languages (i. e. Slovene, Italian and Croatian). One of the main aims of the paper is to present a contrastive analysis model which combines quantitative and qualitative methods on the one hand, and top-down and bottom-up approaches to metaphor research on the other. Reference will be made to the results of a case study based on the contrastive analysis of a corpus of pre-election articles related to the American elections in 2008 which has been undertaken to validate the proposed model. Itwill be argued that while the selected languages conceptualise elections in similar ways, there are also significant variations which have cultural implications.
