Enhancing knowledge and technology transfer : determinants and indicators of successful university–industry collaboration
Jana Hojnik, Štefan Bojnec, Simona Kustec, Vaida Zemlickienė, Zenonas Turskis, 2026, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: Both universities and companies create value and innovation to maintain their position and remain competitive. Different, but still similar, with two goals that are shared. With their collaboration, they can enhance their pursuit of sustainability and as well corporate social responsibility by creating and delivering value and thus contributing to the well-being of society. This paper thus examines the determinants and indicators of successful university–industry collaboration (UIC) in the context of knowledge and technology transfer. The purpose of the research is to identify key factors that drive effective UIC and to establish measurable indicators for evaluating the performance of this collaboration. The paper aimed to understand not only what drives UIC but also how to measure its effectiveness. So, an exploratory, theory-building approach, adopting a systematic literature review is applied. By focusing on the determinants and measurable outputs of UIC, the paper provides insights into the strategic importance of measuring knowledge and technology transfer for a wide range of stakeholders involved in it. UIC for universities is a part of their third mission and their CSR, while with respect for companies, UIC is a result of practicing open innovation and pursuing corporate social responsibility. While consolidating these dimensions, the study also develops a holistic input–output indicator framework that not only clarifies how collaboration is initiated and structured but also how it can be evaluated in practice.

ICT use in early childhood education from parents’ and educators’ perspectives
Nina Krmac, Petra Furlan, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The study aimed to investigate the use of information and communication technology (ICT) by pre-school children as perceived by parents and educators. By analyzing the perceptions of both groups, we wanted to understand how frequently and in what context ICT is used in children's daily lives and in the educational process. The results showed that educators use ICT only occasionally, typically a few times a year, while parents reported a much higher average weekly use of ICT by children. Statistical analyses revealed significant differences in how parents and educators perceive the impact of ICT on children's development, particularly in the areas of knowledge, creativity, and originality, with educators rating the developmental potential of ICT higher. The most commonly used technology among preschool children was television, followed by smartphones, tablets and computers. The discussion also highlighted differences in the use of applications and emphasized the need for greater professional support in the selection and use of ICT for children's development.

Andreja Istenič, Liliya Latypova, Violeta Rosanda, Žiga Turk, Roza Alexeyevna Valeeva, Xuesong Zhai, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Artificial intelligence transforms human learning and education. Social robots in the elementary classroom enter the human sphere in the critical period of child’s development. Social robotic educational technology, designed for long-term emotional connections and relationships, raises questions in the pedagogic relations and interaction. Research on teacher perceptions and readiness is deficient. This paper reports analyses of aspects of child-social robot interaction are of concern to pre-service teachers from China, Russia and Slovenia. Findings indicate that at the heart of participating pre-service teachers in China, Russia and Slovania concerns are authenticity and humanness. Our findings show their concerns are mainly rooted in the belief that the robot shouldnot acquire the ability to perform authentic interactions nor should undertake a teaching roles. There is a widespread agreement among participants from three cultural contexts that teachers remain essential in educational contexts. In contrast, concerns related to social Interaction indicate notable group differences. The article highlights the teacher’s responsible planning and use of artificial intelligence educational technology.

Mapping the Perceived Usefulness and Intentions of Small Farmers in the Czech Republic to Engage in Short Food Supply Chains
Libor Grega, Kristina Somerlíková, Eliska Svobodova, 2015, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci

Opis: Short food supply chains (SFSCs) represent an innovative approach to the distribution of agricultural products, characterized by minimizing the distance between the producer and the consumer. This approach is increasingly perceived as a key factor in the resilience and sustainability of small farm development. The aim of this paper is to analyze the current use of SFSCs as a tool for strengthening the economic resilience and sustainability of small agricultural farms in the Czech Republic. It focuses on mapping factors influencing the perceived usefulness and ease of engagement and determinants of farmers’ behavioral intention to engage in SFSCs. The theoretical framework of the presented paper is based on the Technology Acceptance Model, which is applied to the agricultural sector. This framework provides a suitable structure for understanding the factors influencing the behavioural intention to adopt new technologies and innovations, including perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, which are key to understanding how farmers perceive their involvement in SFSCs and what their motivations and barriers are. The necessary data were obtained using semi-structured interviews with 156 small farmers in the Czech Republic. Categorical data were subjected to statistical hypothesis testing using contingency tables and the calculation of the χ² (chi-square) test to determine whether there was a statistically significant relationship between the variables. The use of contingency tables allowed for effective summarization and visualization of relationships between individual variables and the identification of patterns and trends in the data, which facilitated the interpretation of factors influencing the involvement of small farmers in the Czech Republic in SFSCs. The paper concludes by summarizing the importance of SFSCs as a tool for strengthening the resilience and sustainability of small agricultural farms. It also contributes to a better understanding of the factors influencing the involvement of small farmers in short food supply chains and provides recommendations for the development of agricultural policies and practices that can support the development of sustainable agricultural systems.

Jasmine Pani, Laura Fiorini, Erika Rovini, Francesco Giuliani, Letizia Lorusso, Sergio Russo, Adriano César do Nascimento Teixeira Fernandes, Ana Goreti de Oliveira, Elisabete Pitarma, Ângela Rodrigues, Mateja Erce Paoli, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Introduction The global increase in the older adult population has amplified interest in supporting aging in place. Age-related physical and cognitive limitations pose significant challenges, for example managing daily tasks such as medication or household activities can become increasingly difficult. This also burdens informal caregivers with emotional stress, time demands and care coordination. Assistive technologies can enhance autonomy, social connection and health management, but their long-term adoption and use remain limited. Methods Within the Pharaon project, the study explored factors influencing technology use among older adults after 12 months of use. The research focused on the Italian pilot while integrating insights from other European sites. Qualitative data from semi-structured interviews were analyzed thematically and validated through reflection meetings and iterative online questionnaires. Recurring factors were consolidated, prioritized and mapped to explore interconnections affecting adoption. Results Initial findings revealed 30 factors, including personal characteristics, motivational aspects, technical design, social dynamics, and environmental context. These were rated by participating teams and 25 were retained for deeper analysis. An interconnection analysis explored how these factors influenced one another. Highly interconnected factors, such as social context, personalized training, ease of use, and cognitive changes, were central to understanding and improving technology adoption. In contrast, aspects like education level, internet access, and technical requirements appeared less interconnected, indicating more isolated effects. Discussion This multi-site, empirical investigation emphasizes the complex and interconnected nature of technology adoption among older adults. Our findings underscore the need for user-centered design, tailored training, and sensitivity to social context. Furthermore, the interactive mapping of interrelated factors provides a practical framework for developers and policymakers to target impactful interventions. To our knowledge, this is the first cross-pilot study to empirically define and score factors affecting older adults’ technology use based on multi-pilot data across Europe, offering valuable insights for long-term, meaningful engagement.

Implementation of the Science on a Sphere Visualization System as a Web Application
Jurij Anžič, Ciril Bohak, 2025, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji

Opis: SOS is a visualization system originally developed by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to project dynamic global datasets onto a spherical display, enabling audiences to explore complex Earth system processes in an intuitive and immersive way. While highly efective in museums, science centers, and classrooms, the traditional Science on a Sphere (SoS) hardware installation requires dedicated infrastructure, limiting its accessibility and scalability. This paper presents the design and implementation of a web-based application that reproduces the core functionality of the Science on a Sphere (SoS) system in a browser environment. The application utilizes modern web technologies to render real-time spherical visualizations of global datasets. Users can load, manipulate, and interact with datasets such as atmospheric phenomena, ocean currents, or planetary imagery without the need for specialized hardware. The system also supports interactive controls for rotating, zooming, and overlaying multiple data layers, extending the pedagogical potential of Science on a Sphere (SoS) by enabling personal exploration on laptops, tablets, and mobile devices. By transitioning Science on a Sphere (SoS) from a physical installation to a lightweight, browser-based platform, the proposed solution broadens access to scientific visualizations, promotes remote and classroom learning, and ensures that Science on a Sphere (SoS) content can be integrated into modern online education ecosystems.

Information and Communications Technology and Financial Development as Catalysts for Gender Equality in Brazil’s Agricultural Sector
Freiderick Yohanna Letong, Mehdi Seraj, Fatma Türüç Seraj, Huseyin Ozdeser, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In this study, we examined the effects of information and communications technology (ICT) and financial development on mitigating gender inequality in Brazil, using autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) approaches, between 1991 and 2022. The ARDL bounds test was employed to find the presence of co-integration within the series of data. Both in the short run and the long run, financial development has a significant negative impact on gender disparity; this means that policies aimed at enhancing women’s financial and consumption services should be promoted in the short run. In the long run, we can conclude that ICT developments lead to a decreasein gender inequalities, which may imply the need for strategic, long-term planning to increase ICT infrastructure, especially in deprived areas. This includes subsidising affordable internet, skills training for women in the ICT field, and promoting women’s participation in the technology industry. In addition, the impact of optimal financial development varies over time; hence, there is a need for flexibility and sustainability in financial development. Policy makers should therefore continue to strengthen and enhance financial inclusion initiatives, as well as regularly follow up on the impact of these initiatives on gender equality.

Psychological factors and mechanisms of digital learning
Maša Černelič Bizjak, Sabina Ličen, 2025, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji

Opis: The digital environment is different from natural and social environments. Technologies are evolving to support new methods of collaborative learning and interaction. A key challenge is to ensure that technology-enhanced education is effective and creates a supportive environment for students. This requires considering adaptive motivations, emotions, and psychological factors such as intrinsic motivation, cognitive load and self-regulation, all which influence student engagement and success in digital learning. This chapter provides an overview of literature on psychological processes important in digital learning. Factors such as motivation, cognitive management, and self-regulation shape student performance in these environments. The psychology of digital learning explores the cognitive, emotional, and social dimensions of education in the digital age. Research aims to optimize these environments for better learning outcomes. Understanding these psychological elements is essential for educators to create more effective, engaging, and enjoyable digital learning experiences, though the field is still developing, and many aspects remain to be explored.

Enhancing crisis response efficiency through ICT : a Delphi study on operational and decision-making improvements in mass casualty incidents
Primož Režek, Boštjan Žvanut, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The potential of information and communication technology (ICT) to improve coordination and decision-making during the training and operational phases of mass casualty incidents (MCIs) has not yet been sufficiently explored. This three-round Delphi study investigates whether ICT use in MCIs can enhance decision-making and increase victim survival rates. The study was conducted from 10 February to 20 September 2024, with 25 international experts from academia, clinical practice, and health informatics. The results were summarised using a SWOT analysis, confirming ICT's perceived potential in MCI management. The analysis revealed a critical asymmetry: while the strengths and opportunities were mainly associated with technical factors (e.g. the effectiveness of drones, global positioning systems, artificial intelligence, dashboards, and virtual and augmented reality to improve the cost-effectiveness of training), weaknesses and threats were mainly social and organisational. These included a lack of standardisation and interoperability, limited ICT-supported training, infrastructure and cybersecurity gaps, resistance to change, legal constraints, underfunding, low technological readiness, and scepticism about the cost-effectiveness of ICT in real-world MCI contexts. Our findings highlight the gap between technological readiness and implementation challenges, suggesting that ICT innovation alone is insufficient without supportive governance, infrastructure, and stakeholder engagement. As the first Delphi study of its kind, it provides a strategic foundation for evidence-based ICT integration in training and operational MCI responses. The findings provide clear priorities for future policy development and empirical validation, emphasising the need to address persistent non-technical barriers to realise ICT’s full potential in crisis management.
