It is shown that no 3-isoregular bicirculant (and more generally, no locally 3-isoregular bicirculant) of order twice an odd number exists. Further, partial results for bicirculants of order twice an even number as well as tricirculants of specific orders, are also obtained. Since 3-isoregular graphs are necessarily strongly regular, a motivation for the above result about bicirculants is that it brings us a step closer to obtaining a direct proof of a classical consequence of the Classification of Finite Simple Groups, that no simply primitive group of degree twice a prime exists for primes greater than 5. 42. Combining thermo-hydro- mechanical and phenol-resin impregnation treatments : potential for high-density poplar flooringMatthew Schwarzkopf, 2020, drugi znanstveni članki Opis: Thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) treatments can be used to improve certain properties of underutilized wood species, especially those with low densities. These treatments densify the wood by softening the cell walls using heat, pressure, and moisture but are subject to set-recovery (recovery of compressive deformation) when exposed to humidity. Phenol-based resins have been successful in mitigating this issue when impregnated into the wood. This work explores the use of a new phenol-based resin combined with a THM treatment to limit set-recovery and produce products with the potential for flooring applications. Scratch resistance, hardness, and glue-line shear strength were used to assess the performance. The THM treatment and impregnated phenol resin used in this study increased the scratch resistance, density, and hardness of natural poplar wood and created satisfactory bonding conditions for flooring purposes. Povezanost med doseganjem smernic za 24-urno gibalno vedenje in socio-demografskimi dejavniki pri odraslih : sistematični pregled literatureNejc Črnčič, Kaja Kastelic, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Doseganje smernic za 24-urno gibalno vedenje, ki vključujejo priporo-čila za telesno dejavnost, sedentarno vedenje in spanje, je ključnega pomena za ohranjanje in krepitev zdravja. Namen tega prispevka je bil pregledati literaturo na temo povezanosti med doseganjem smernic za 24-urno gibalno vedenje in sociodemografskimi dejavniki pri odrasli populaciji. Po pregledu 746 zadetkov iz treh baz znanstvene literature (PubMed, Scopus in Web of Science) smo v analizo vključili 18 člankov, v katerih so poročali o raziskavah, izvedenih v Severni, Srednji in Južni Ameriki ter Aziji. Raziskave v splošnem kažejo, da mlajši odrasli, moški, bolje izobraženi, poročeni, osebe z višjim socialno-ekonomskim položa-jem in belopolti pogosteje dosegajo smernice za 24-urno gibalno vede-nje. Prihodnje raziskave bi morale več pozornosti nameniti proučevanju sociodemografskih dejavnikov, povezanih s hkratnim nedoseganjem vseh priporočil v okviru smernic, saj so prav te skupine izpostavljene največjemu tveganju za slabše zdravje. Manjkajo tudi raziskave, izvede-ne na evropskih tleh. 44. Interlaboratory study of the quality of water vapor sorption data for wood from automated sorption balancesSamuel L. Zelinka, Samuel V. Curling, Jinzhen Cao, Yujiao Wang, Tina Künniger, Matthew Schwarzkopf, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Automated sorption balances are widely used for characterizing the interaction of water vapor with hygroscopic materials. This paper is part of an interlaboratory study investigating the stability and performance of automated sorption balances. A previous paper in this study investigated the mass, temperature, and relative humidity (RH) stability of automated sorp- tion balances by looking at the mass change of a non-hygroscopic sample over time. In this study, we examine the mass stability of wood samples held at constant RH for seven to ten days after a step change. The reason for the long hold times was to collect data to “operational equilibrium” where the change in mass is on the order of the inherent operational stability of the instrument. A total of 80 datasets were acquired from 21 laboratories covering absorption with final RH levels ranging from 10 to 95%. During these long hold times, several unusual behaviors were observed in the mass-vs-time curves. Deviations from expected sorption behavior were examined by fitting the data to an empirical sorption kinetics model and calculating the root mean square error (RMSE) between the observed and smoothed behavior. Samples that had a large RMSE relative to the median RMSE of the other datasets often had one of several types of errors: abrupt disturbances, diurnal oscillations, or long-term mass decline during an absorption step. In many cases, mass fluctuations were correlated with changes in the water reservoir temperature of the automated sorption balance. We discuss potential errors in sorption measurements on hygroscopic materials and suggest an acceptable level of RMSE for sorption data. Linking older adults’ psychosocial well-being with objective and perceived environments in SloveniaMateja Erce Paoli, Michael David Burnard, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Background: Europe’s aging population faces resource loss, loneliness, and social isolation, making psychosocial well-being a priority. A well-designed environment can help compensate for lost resources, while poor design may harm health, highlighting environmental quality as key to successful aging. Aim: The aim of our study was to evaluate the link between psychosocial well-being, and the built environment. Method: Participants from three retirement homes in Slovenia filled in the World Health Organization Wellbeing Index, the Brief Sense of Community, the Lubben Social Network Scale, the University of California Los Angeles Loneliness Scale, and the short version of the Social Production Function Instrument with the assistance of a researcher. Additionally, the built environ- ment was objectively assessed using the EVOLVE tool and subjectively assessed by participants using a custom scale. Structural equation modeling was used to examine paths between the environ- ment and wellbeing. Results: The findings showed a statistically significant indirect effect of well-being on the perceived environment, while no indirect effects were found between the objective and per- ceived environment or well-being. However, specific objectively measured environmental factors, such as acceptability, features for sensory and dementia support, and perceived accessibility and aesthetic environmental attributes significantly affect well-being. Conclusion: These findings highlight the need to prioritize well-being in urban planning for aging populations. Beyond basic needs like safety, high- level needs like aesthetics, sensory support, and accessibility should be emphasized. Enhancing well- being through these factors may be effective when designing or modifying physical environments. Accessible, sensory-friendly, and dementia-supportive designs can further support healthy aging. For a positive integer m such that m ≥ 3, we show that the group ℤ_(n) is an m-DCI-group if and only if n is not divisible by 8 nor by p² for any odd prime p < m. Furthermore, if m ≥ 6, then we show that ℤn is an m-CI-group if and only if either n ∈ {8, 9, 18}, or n ∉ {8, 9, 18} and n is not divisible by 8 nor by p² for any odd prime p < (m - 1)/2.
