Weaving the threads of authenticity : cultural tourism and handcrafted heritage in Zlatibor
Tadeja Jere Jakulin, 2026, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji

Opis: Zlatibor, a mountain range in southwestern Serbia, is not just a summer and winter resort or a climatic spa. It’s a nature park transformed into a tourist destination of two extremes. New, high-rise apartment buildings that symbolise modernity obstruct the view of the town of Zlatibor. However, the central part of this urban settlement intertwines with authenticity through local food, handicrafts, taverns, music, herbalism, and homemade food and drinks. The chapter aims to provide a nuanced understanding of the multifaceted dimensions of cultural tourism in Zlatibor through a comprehensive exploration of these interconnected aspects. It underlines the role of cultural tourism in preserving and promoting the region’s handcrafted traditions, tourist experiences, and the creation of meaningful, authentic handwoven products. It builds systems measures in the form of a causal loop diagram, which serves as a model of actual stakeholders in Zlatibor, who influence the development of cultural tourism, its interdependencies and most of all, understanding between local artisans and tourists, building a bridge between the past and the present to reach the optimal cultural tourism development on a base of cultural heritage of this tourism area. The created CLD (causal loop model) serves as a presentation of systems methodology as an optimal methodology for creating strategies in tourism.

Anna Malgorzata Sandak, Faksawat Poohphajai, Amina Selmanović, Rene Alexander Herrera Diaz, Jakub Grzybek, Kelly Peeters, Sasikala Perumal, Edit Földvári-Nagy, Lei Han, Richard Acquah, Jakub Michal Sandak, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This study presents a wood modification process using Fast Pyrolysis Bio-Oil (FPBO) as a fully biobased alternative to conventional, fossil-based and potentially toxic preservatives such as copper salts, organic biocides, and creosote. Standard FPBO was used in the devel- opment of 10 formulations, which were systematically characterized in terms of pot life, viscosity evolution, density, and pH. Radiata pine samples were subsequently impregnated using a bench-scale reactor, with specimens prepared in multiple geometries to assess treat- ment performance across different dimensions. The modified wood was comprehensively characterized with respect to moisture uptake, dimensional stability, density, mechanical strength, fixation efficiency, biological durability, and VOC emissions. Additional screening focused on properties relevant to outdoor applications, including aesthetic appearance and colour uniformity after UV exposure. The results enabled the identification of three top-performing formulations, treatments H, A, and E, which exhibited the most favourable balance between durability, environmental performance, and structural integrity. Overall, the findings demonstrate the strong potential of FPBO-based impregnation as a sustainable, multifunctional, and high-performance alternative for advanced wood protection systems.

What do listeners attend to when listening to music? : Toward explainable music recommendations
Kosar Seyyedhosseinzadeh, Matevž Pesek, Marko Tkalčič, 2026, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci

Opis: Personalized explanations in recommender systems can be useful when they reflect the aspects of an item that matter to the user. To account for individual preferences regarding different aspects of songs in music recommender systems, it is first necessary to identify which song aspects explain meaningful variation among listeners. This paper introduces a questionnaire instrument designed to operationalize these differences as a measurable user characteristic. The instrument was developed through item generation, expert review, pilot testing, and a main study. Data from the main study ( = 245) were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis to examine the questionnaire’s internal structure. The results supported a two-factor solution, interpreted as Lyric- Engagement and Music-Engagement, with both dimensions showing good internal consistency. These findings suggest that listeners’ orientations toward lyrical and musical elements can be measured in an interpretable way. The contribution of this study lies not in proposing a new explanation algorithm, but in providing an empirical basis for user modeling that may help align explanation content with the song characteristics most relevant to different listeners.

Eco-sustainable food packaging : biobased multi-active films to mitigate migration of mineral oils and polyolefin oligomeric saturated hydrocarbons
Ana Miklavčič Višnjevec, Laura Barp, Donatella Peressini, Sabrina Moret, 2026, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: The migration of mineral oils from recycled paper and cardboard packaging to food has raised increasing con- cerns in recent years. In addition to mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOH), polyolefin oligomeric hydrocarbons (POH), a class of synthetic hydrocarbons derived from the polymerization of olefins such as ethylene and propylene, and often analytically mistaken for MOH, also pose a risk. POH can migrate from plastic materials into food, espe- cially those made with polyolefins like polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), which are widely used in food packaging (films, trays, containers, etc.). Several solutions have been proposed, and others are still under development to address this issue. Currently, the most promising approach is the introduction of polymeric materials as a barrier to prevent the migration of these contaminants. The primary aim of this review is to provide an updated overview of the migration of MOH and POH from conventional packaging materials into foods, the parameters influencing this process, recent advances in innovative eco-sustainable barrier materials, and the testing methods used to measure their migration. Special attention is given to biopolymers, as they enhance the sustainability of paper and cardboard packaging while maintaining their recyclability.

A floating floor resilient layer development approach and its application to the design of a high impact sound insulation wood-based solution
Rok Prislan, Andreja Kutnar, Urban Kavka, Maximilian Neusser, Daniel Svenšek, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Environmental considerations have become increasingly important in the construction industry, driving the search for more sustainable alternatives to conventional building materials and solutions. One resource-intensive material used for structural decoupling is the impact-resilient layer, which, when installed in floating floors, is crucial for achieving the required insulation ratings. This study presents a methodology for developing an impact-resilient layer. The approach defines the key performance parameters of a floating floor and follows an experimental development approach based on prototyping. Prototypes are iteratively improved, with the first generation providing proof of concept and evolving into a final large-scale prototype that validates the impact insulation performance. To validate the approach, it is applied to the development of a wood-based resilient layer as a case study. The introduced resilient layer is highly sustainable and follows design for disassembly principles, while technically relying on a novel elastic response mechanism based on the flexural deformation of wooden strips. Over three generations of prototypes, the design evolved systematically, considering different geometric configurations, wood species, and wood-cork composites to manufacture the strips. The experimental evaluation focused on load-bearing capacity, dynamic stiffness, and damping ratio, also accounting for the inherent variabil ity of wood and wood moisture content as experimental parameters. A viable design was achieved and showed competitive impact sound insulation compared to established reference solutions. These results demonstrate that the proposed development approach can be successfully applied in practice and that a wood-based resilient layer can be a viable alternative to conventional market solutions.

Women’s branches of the Sts Cyril and Methodius Society as agents of social and economic development in border regions : an introduction
Petra Kavrečič Božeglav, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This paper explores the relations and interconnections between the national affirmation movement and economic and social development. Focusing on women’s national activism in an ethnically diverse peripheral (border) area, the study examines the Austro-Hungarian land of the Austrian Littoral as a case of a nationally heterogeneous space, in which competing national projects developed under unequal access to political, economic, and cultural resources. In such contexts, economic and social strategies played a vital role in shaping and reinforcing national claims, serving as key tools for creating, negotiating, and maintaining national identity in everyday life. Women emerged as significant, yet often overlooked, participants in these processes, operating at the crossroads of economic activity, social engagement, and national mobilisation.

Classification of pentavalent symmetric tricirculants
Yasamin Khaefi, Klavdija Kutnar, Dragan Marušič, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: A graph $\Gamma$ is said to be an {\em $m$-Cayley graph} on a group $G$ ($|G|\ne 1$) if its automorphism group contains a semiregular subgroup isomorphic to $G$ having $m$ orbits on the vertex set of $\Gamma$. If $G$ is cyclic and $m=3$ then $\Gamma$ is called a {\em tricirculant}. A graph is said to be {\em symmetric} if its automorphism group acts transitively on the set of its arcs. In this paper, it is shown that with the exception of $K_6$, no connected pentavalent symmetric tricirculant exists.

Efficient material selection for training occluded mmWave radar-based gesture recognisers
Nuwan Attygalle, Luis A. Leiva, Matjaž Kljun, Klen Čopič Pucihar, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Radar-based gesture recognition has emerged as a promising approach for unobtrusive interaction. Unlike camera-based systems, radar sensors can detect gestures through opaque materials, enabling seamless embedding into various everyday objects. However, it remains unclear how to train models efficiently for robust gesture recognition through diverse materials. To investigate this, we collected a dataset of 17,520 gesture recordings performed through 73 everyday materials. By comparing several material-sampling and data-augmentation strategies, we found that a small carefully selected representative subset of training materials was sufficient to match performance of a classifier trained on the full material dataset. Our results showed that the models trained on 14 quota-sampled materials achieved accuracies of 95.8% and 91.2%, comparable to training on all 73 materials (96.8% and 91.6%) and significantly better than training without material data (66.8% and 65.8%). Among the evaluated sampling approaches, Quota sampling also provided the best overall trade-off between performance and practicality. In contrast, classifiers trained on augmented data performed worse than those trained on actual material-specific data. Taken together, these findings indicate that, for the tested sensor, gesture set, and material collection, carefully selected real-material data offer a practical route to reducing material-specific data collection in radar-based gesture recognition while preserving generalisation. Code, models, and data are available in the public repository, with additional details provided in the supplementary materials: https://gitlab.com/hicuplab/seeing-through.

On the uniform structure of bipartite graphs admitting a dual adjacency matrix candidate
Blas Fernández, Roghayeh Maleki, Štefko Miklavič, Giusy Monzillo, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Let Γ denote a finite, bipartite, connected graph with vertex set X. Fix x ∈ X and let ε ≥ 3 denote the eccentricity of x. For mutually distinct scalars {θ ∗ i }ε i=0 define a diagonal matrix A∗ = A∗(θ ∗ 0 , θ ∗ 1 , . . . , θ ∗ ε ) ∈ Mat X (R) as follows: for y ∈ X set (A∗)yy = θ ∗ ∂(x,y), where ∂ denotes the shortest path-length distance function of Γ. We say that A∗ is a dual adjacency matrix candidate of Γ with respect to x if the adjacency matrix A ∈ Mat X (R) of Γ and A∗ satisfy A3 A∗ − A∗ A3 + (β + 1)(A A∗ A2 − A2 A∗ A) = ρ(A A∗ − A∗ A) for some scalars β, ρ ∈ R. In this paper, we investigate when bipartite graphs that admit a dual adjacency matrix candidate also admit a uniform structure (in the sense of Terwilliger [6]). To do that, we first define a weakly uniform structure by slightly relaxing the conditions of uniform structure. The main result of this paper is that Γ admits a dual adjacency matrix candidate with respect to x if and only if Γ admits a weakly uniform structure with respect to x whose parameters satisfy some additional conditions. In particular, for β = 2, the weakly uniform structure is indeed a uniform structure.
