1. Empowering Social Protection in Developing Economies : The Role of Climate Finance; Insights from COP28Umar Suffian Ahmad, Ghassan H. Mardini, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Global challenges resulting from climate change, economic distress, and social confrontation are rising. In this scenario, Social Protection (SP) provides a mechanism to deal with all such issues. This research study aims to analyse the impact of SP on Conference of the Parties (COP28) Climate Financing (CF). The study is based on a panel of 32 countries that met the CF criteria for a period of 19 years. To empirically validate the impact, the Two Step System GMM method has been used. This approach deals with the endogeneity issue and provides robust analysis to account for autocorrelation and heteroscedasticity problems. The results show that CF has a significant impact on empowering SP. However, in the case of low-income countries, the impact is negative. This paper offers a novel analysis of the COP28 CF and SP framework. The study also highlights the broader policy relevance of COP28 financing frameworks. It suggests the potential to inform global climate finance, enhance cross-country allocation, and guide the integration of climate-related funding with social protection beyond developing economies. 2. Digital Transformation Leadership and AI Capabilities as Drivers of Sustainable Competitive Advantage : The Mediating Role of Organizational Agility in Spain’s New S-Curve IndustriesAbdelhak Alioune, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The modern trend among various industrial companies to adopt digital technologies in their operations through digital transformation and reliance on artificial intelligence has become an imperative, especially with the increasing intensity of competition in global markets. To gain a realistic understanding of the role of digital transformation leadership (DTL) and AI capabilities (AIC) in achieving sustainable competitive advantage (SCA) for organizations, this study employs organizational agility (OA) as a mediating variable, based on data collected from 441 employees in Spanish ‘New S-Curve’ industries, which are innovative sectors achieving high growth returns within the framework of the ‘Spain 5.0’ national strategy. The statistical and analytical framework of Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) revealed that DTL has a significant impact on SCA, while the effect of AIC was not significant. Furthermore, OA was found to be an important mediator, reinforcing the indirect effects of both DTL and AIC on achieving SCA for Spanish organizations. 3. Mapping the Landscape : A Literature Review on Circular Economy AdoptionAnkita Pandey, Himanshu Mohan, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The circular economy (CE) has emerged as a strategic framework to decouple economic growth from environmental degradation through resource efficiency, waste reduction, and closed-loop systems. The current study uniquely integrates the PRISMA protocol with the 5W1H analytical framework and bibliometric triangulation to bridge conceptual, behavioural, and policy perspectives within CE research. This study conducts a systematic literature review of 332 peer-reviewed articles from Scopus and Web of Science, applying the PRISMA methodology and the 5W1Hb analytical framework. Bibliometric and thematic analyses reveal five core research themes: technological innovation, circular business models, policy mechanisms, behavioural insights, and supply chain optimisation. While the United Kingdom and India lead in scholarly and policy contributions, the CE research landscape remains fragmented. Key gaps persist in digital nudging, behavioural adoption, and sector-specific applications. The study emphasises the need for interdisciplinary approaches and model-driven frameworks to foster systemic CE transitions. By mapping conceptual trends, theoretical linkages, and regional participation, this study provides a novel integrative synthesis and actionable implications for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners seeking to accelerate CE adoption. 4. Impact of Job Loss on Household Income during the COVID-19 Pandemic : Results of a Quasi-Experimental Analysisin the Republic of the CongoTed Cléophane Ngassa, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This study evaluates the average monthly income loss associated with COVID-19-related job losses in households in the Republic of the Congo (ROC). Firstly, the propensity score matching (PSM) method is used for the estimates. Secondly, endogenous switching regression accounts for theunobserved effect. The data used are from the survey on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the living conditions of Congolese households conducted in 2020 by the National Institute of Statistics of the ROC. The results show, on the one hand, that the PSM method underestimates the assessed impact and, on the other hand, that the increase in household income loss attributed to job loss due to COVID-19 is 232,432.9 XAF on average per month. These results imply several measures (reducing the costs imposed on employers, subsidies, etc.) and the adaptation of labour market regulations to the new realities. 5. The Relationship Between Ease of Doing Business Indicators and Foreign Direct Investment in AfricaDarlington Chizema, Ewert P. J. Kleynhans, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This study examines the impact of the business environment on foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into Africa, utilising panel data from 39 African countries over the period 2005–2019. Institutional and regulatory dimensions are captured through selected indicators from the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index. A dynamic panel data approach is employed, applying the one-step difference Generalised Method of Moments (GMM) estimator to address potential endogeneity, autocorrelation, and unobserved heterogeneity. The results indicate strong persistence in FDI, with lagged inflows exerting a significant positive effect on current levels. Among the business environment indicators, registering property is positively and significantly associated with FDI, highlighting the importance of secure property rights. Conversely, getting credit shows a significant negative relationship, suggesting that inefficiencies in credit markets may deter investment. These findings underscore the need for policy reforms aimed at streamlining property registration and enhancing credit market infrastructure to foster a more conducive environment for sustained FDI inflows and economic development. 7. Treewidth versus clique number. v. further connections with tree‐independence numberClaire Hilaire, Martin Milanič, Ðorđe Vasić, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: We continue the study of (tw, ω)‐bounded graph classes, that is, hereditary graph classes in which large treewidth is witnessed by the presence of a large clique, and the relation of this property to boundedness of the tree‐independence number, a graph parameter introduced independently by Yolov in 2018 and by Dallard, Milanič, and Štorgel in 2024. Dallard et al. showed that bounded tree‐independence number is sufficient for (tw, ω)‐boundedness, and conjectured that the converse holds. While this conjecture has been recently disproved, it is still interesting to determine classes where the conjecture holds; for example, the conjecture is still open for graph classes excluding an induced star, as well as for finitely many forbidden induced subgraphs. In this paper, we identify further families of graph classes where (tw, ω)‐boundedness is equivalent to bounded tree‐independence number. We settle a number of cases of finitely many forbidden induced subgraphs, obtain several equivalent characterizations of (tw, ω)-boundedness in subclasses of the class of complements of line graphs, and give a short proof of a recent result of Ahn, Gollin, Huynh, and Kwon [SODA 2025] establishing bounded tree-independence number for graphs excluding a fixed induced star and a fixed number of independent cycles. 9. A new wildlife monitoring app in Slovenia : a pilot evaluation of data quality and useŽiga Velkavrh, Luka Duniš, Boštjan Pokorny, Hubert Potočnik, Elena Bužan, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Wildlife monitoring is crucial for successful conservation and management of wildlife populations. To support modern wildlife monitoring approaches in Slovenia, we developed SRNA, a nationwide citizen science appli- cation that collects additional metadata on several terrestrial vertebrate species. The app is designed for two groups of citizen scientists, hunters and other nature observers. To foster learning, it features a photo-based wildlife identification quiz and species identification guides. This pilot study evaluated app use and data quality with two aims: (1) to assess users’ ability to identify wildlife species from photos, focusing on taxa expected to be challenging to identify, and to test whether identification accuracy varies across mammal groups; (2) to analyse wildlife observation data submitted through SRNA. Users were successful in identifying several distinctive species but had some difficulty distinguishing between certain mustelids, and between golden jackal and grey wolf, indicating priorities for targeted educational campaigns. Biology-related educational background facilitated identification of mustelids and, to a lesser extent, canids. In its first year, SRNA collected 1633 observations via 742 reports, predominantly of European roe deer. Hunters and nature observers contributed complementary data: differences were observed not only in the number of reported species and amount of data they provided, but also in reporting patterns across biogeo- graphic regions, reporting rates, and the average delay time between encounters and submissions. This study demonstrates that SRNA provides promising complementary data for wildlife monitoring, but also highlights data quality limitations (biases and verification issues) that must be taken into account when using SRNA data. 10. Psychological aspects in retrieval and recommendationMarkus Schedl, Elisabeth Lex, Marko Tkalčič, 2025, objavljeni povzetek znanstvenega prispevka na konferenci Opis: Psychological processes play a critical role in shaping users’ inter- actions with information retrieval (IR) and recommender systems (RS). Therefore, understanding human cognition, decision-making, and emotions is vital to enable user-centric retrieval and recommendation systems. Vice versa, understanding whether these aspects are also present in the systems themselves (e.g., in training data, ranking models, or outputs), or even injecting them on purpose, can inform the development of psychology-inspired systems. The purpose of this tutorial is to provide its attendees with an introduction to psychological concepts that are important in the ecosystem of search, retrieval, and recommendation, in particular, cognitive architectures, cognitive effects and biases, as well as personality and affect. Leveraging corresponding models allows its audience to build or refine psychology-informed IR and RS technology. The interdisciplinary tutorial requires intermediate expertise in terms of IR and RS, while we do not assume knowledge in psychology.
