The survey addresses the ongoing mental health crisis in academia by providing comprehensive, multilevel data on researcher well-being and its structural determinants. We employed a cross- sectional between-participant study design to collect data from 4,296 researchers between September 15, 2023, and August 26, 2024. The sample, which primarily includes researchers based in European countries, has a mean age of 38.1 years (SD = 10.7) and consists of 63.7% female participants. Participants provided data on key mental health outcomes – including depression, anxiety, stress, burnout, and well- being – alongside detailed assessments of working conditions, leadership behavior, and organizational characteristics. The dataset facilitates a holistic, multilevel investigation of academic mental health beyond individual risk factors by including the individual, leadership, institutional, and national context. By enabling analyses across hierarchical levels this dataset provides the necessary evidence to identify systemic drivers of mental (ill) health and inform the development of effective, system-wide strategies for meaningful change in academic work environments. 2. How Citizen Science Supports Statistical Reasoning: Literature ReviewAna Slavec, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji Opis: Citizen science has expanded to a widely used research approach, indicating that volunteers can contribute to scientific activities when supported by appropriate tools, infrastructures, and project designs. As participatory data practices grow, so does interest in how citizens understand and work with data, particularly in relation to statistical literacy. However, little is known about how involvement in citizen-science activities shapes volunteers’ understanding of key statistical ideas. This narrative literature review examines studies that link citizen-science participation with the development of statistical or data-literacy skills. A structured search of the Scopus database identified fifteen relevant peer-reviewed articles across diverse disciplines. Each study was analysed for its learning context, the nature of the citizen-science activity, the data tasks involved, and how statistical literacy was conceptualized. Thematic synthesis revealed recurring patterns: citizen-science settings frequently supported gains in data literacy, inferential reasoning, and understanding of uncertainty, while also fostering civic engagement and motivation. Digital tools and community co-creation played central roles in enabling learning, though challenges remained around misconceptions, accessibility, and inclusivity. Overall, the findings highlight the potential of citizen science as a rich context for developing statistical reasoning, while underlining the need for stronger theoretical frameworks and systematic empirical research. 3. The prefigurative politics of enactable sustainability transformations in the presentSiddharth Sareen, Sirkku Juhola, Adrianna Czarnecka, Aleksandra Kekkonen, Aleksandra Martinovska Stojcheska, Ana Slavec, Anita Uchanska-Bieniusiewicz, Chris Rønningstad, Claudiu Martin, Gintarė Tamašauskaitė-Janickė, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The concept of “prefigurative politics” invites geographers to envision transformative change through a shift in practices stemming from a micro level. This article examines and substantiates how this idea is mobilised in relation to current sustainability transformations. A large interdisciplinary group of geographers and transition scholars present topic clusters of prefigurative enablers that instigate and catalyse the enactment of transformative policymaking towards sustainable futures. Drawing on dozens of rich and diverse examples to illustrate cases of transformation, we provide a conceptual perspective to advance the theoretical discussion about triggers and processes of transformative change amongst geographers. We argue for three principles for examining the prefigurative politics of present transformation: (a) multi-scalarity, to consider prefigurative politics across personal-systemic spheres; (b) boundary transgression, to span interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary as well as inward- and outward-looking prefigurative politics; and (c) temporalities, to address institutionalisation and change processes that play out along short and long timelines. Approaching present transformations through a prefigurative politics lens helps identify scope for action that aligns with transformative change. We argue for wider deployment of these principles, to synthesise scholarship, channel micro-level prefigurative political efforts into systemic transformative change, and guide future research and policymaking towards sustainability transformations. 4. Conspiracy beliefs in post-communist Europe : the role of religiosity, political ideology, and media trust among unvaccinated individualsKatarzyna Bałandynowicz-Panfil, Malgorzata Łosiewicz, Ana Slavec, Janez Štebe, Șerban Olah, Győző Pék, Adrienn Kaszás-Nagy, Mojca Šoštarič, Magdalena Iwanowska, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: This study explores the sociocultural and psycho ‑ logical determinants of conspiracy theory beliefs (CTBs) among unvaccinated individuals in three post-communist countries: Poland, Romania, and Slovenia. The goal is to understand how religiosity, political orientation, media trust, and fear of COVID-19 shape conspiratorial thinking in societies with legacies of institutional distrust and ideological polarization. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The central research problem concerns the contextual drivers of CTBs in post-communist Eu ‑ rope, where transitional experiences challenge universal explanatory models. The study draws on data from an online survey of 1,641 unvaccinated individuals collected in 2021. Key constructs-including conspiracy beliefs, trust in institutions and media, religiosity, and political orientation-were measured using validated scales and analyzed through multiple regression models. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The argument integrates histori ‑ cal and structural factors with individual-level predictors of CTBs. It distinguishes between private religiosity and religious practice, analyzes media trust in frag ‑ mented information environments, and contextualizes political ideology within the region’s post-authoritarian trajectories. The analysis emphasizes how fear, belief, and epistemic orientation intersect in shaping vaccine-related conspiracies. RESEARCH RESULTS: Findings indicate that higher private religiosity, left-wing political orientation, low fear of COVID-19, and reliance on digital or informal information sources are positively associated with CTBs. In contrast, trust in traditional media, trust in medical professionals, and participation in organized religious practices predict lower endorsement of conspiracies. Slovenia and Poland show the highest CTB levels. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: CTBs in post-communist societies reflect both historical legacies and current epistemic vulnerabilities. Addressing them requires context-sensitive strategies that rebuild institutional trust, support civic engagement, and recognize the social functions of structured belief systems. The study contributes to a better understanding of misinformation dynamics in transitional democracies. 5. Consumer perceptions of wood as a material for sustainable building construction in SloveniaAna Slavec, Lea Primožič, Nežka Sajinčič, 2025, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci Opis: In the context of climate change, aligning residential building practices with environmental priorities is increasingly important. Wood products, with their lower carbon footprint compared to most alternatives, present a viable solution for more sustainable construction. However, consumer awareness of these benefits remains limited. While interest in sustainability is rising, many consumers still perceive wooden structures as less durable, more vulnerable to fire and earthquakes, harder to insulate, and more expensive to maintain. Additionally, environmental considerations often rank below cost, design, and durability when selecting materials for construction, furnishing, and renovations. To explore these perceptions, we conducted a quantitative survey in 2023 involving 1,009 participants from a representative marketing panel in Slovenia. The study assesses Slovenian consumers’ environmental identity, climate concerns, and the frequency of eco-friendly choices, while examining the importance of sustainability relative to other factors in home design decisions. We further analyse the prevalence of wood-based materials in Slovenian households and gather insights on attitudes toward wood in construction. Our findings highlight the need for targeted communication campaigns to address consumer misperceptions about wood’s durability and environmental benefits, drawing comparisons with past studies from other countries. This research provides actionable recommendations for policymakers and industry stakeholders to enhance consumer engagement and support the adoption of wood as a sustainable building material. 7. THE RELIGIOUS AND MENTAL HEALTH DETERMINANTS OF THE COVID-19’S FEAR IN THE CEE COUNTRIESSerban Olah, Katarzyna Bałandynowicz-Panfil, Janez Štebe, Mojca Šoštarič Zvonar, Ana Slavec, Adrienn Kaszás, Győző Pék, Małgorzata Łosiewicz, Magdalena Iwanowska, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The research analyses the relationship between fear and religiosity, particularly focusing on religious habits and intrinsic religiosity in the context of the covid-19 pandemic. A total number of 2212 questionnaires have been collected in Romania, Poland, Slovenia and Hungary in 2021 on the non-vaccinated population. The questionnaire covers topics such as vaccination, religiosity and socio-demographics, and includes the DASS 21 psychological scale, which measures depression, anxiety and stress symptoms. Furthermore, the questionnaire incorporated a specific question regarding the fear of SARS-CoV-2 virus. The findings show that the intrinsic religiosity, age, stress, anxiety and exposure to the news from the traditional media or to the information coming from professional sources seem to increase the degree of fear during the pandemic context. The study yields significant implications for understanding the complex interplay of factors shaping the vaccination attitudes of this group, as well as how they obtain information. This may contribute to developing more effective communication channels for people with passive strategies for coping with fear and anxiety. The need to seek information in times of uncertainty and attitudes that indicate a higher level of intimate religiosity can be leveraged to build more effective coping strategies for unexpected external events or situations that cause fear and anxiety. This is important in light of the ongoing development of Central and Eastern European countries and their specific social and economic background.
