Methods: A cross-sectional survey (N = 194 undergraduates; 52.6% women; M age = 21.9 years) used validated instruments: the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), Body Appreciation Scale-2 Short Form (BAS-2SF), Brief Resilience Scale (BRS), International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form (IPAQ-SF), and single-item measures of financial security and screen time. Physical activity (PA) was log-transformed (MET_log). Multiple simultaneous regression and structural equation modelling (SEM) were conducted. Results: Perceived stress was the strongest negative predictor of life satisfaction (B = −0.561, p < 0.001), while financial security was a significant positive predictor (B = +0.171, p = 0.023). SEM showed that body appreciation was associated with life satisfaction primarily through lower perceived stress (indirect effect = 0.107; consistent with indirect-only association pattern), while PA showed a significant direct association with life satisfaction (β = +0.143, p = 0.030), independent of the stress pathway. The indirect effect of PA via stress was not significant in the SEM. Model fit was acceptable (CFI = 0.951; RMSEA = 0.067). Conclusions: Perceived stress was statistically associated with the relationship between body appreciation and subjective well-being, while PA showed a direct statistical association with well-being that was independent of the stress pathway. Given the cross-sectional nature of this study, these findings suggest that university health promotion programmes may consider integrating positive body image and stress management components alongside PA promotion to support student psychological well-being. 3. Nurses’ moral decision-making in practice through Kantian duty ethicsMirko Prosen, Nađa Antonić, Ema Sovinec, Mitja Zdovc, Sabina Ličen, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Background: Nurses frequently encounter ethical dilemmas, moral distress, and situations in which they must balance professional duties, personal values, and organizational constraints. Deontological ethics, particularly Kant’s ethics of duty, offers a normative framework that emphasizes moral action grounded in duty rather than consequences. However, limited empirical research explores how nurses understand and enact Kantian principles in everyday clinical practice. Research aim: To explore how nurses understand and enact principles of Kant’s ethics of duty in clinical decision-making and how this philosophical framework shapes their moral judgement, sense of duty, and professional integrity. Research design: A qualitative descriptive research design. Participants and research context: Between November and December 2025, 17 nurses were recruited from various clinical settings in Slovenia through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured in-person interviews focused on moral decision-making, professional duty, moral autonomy, and institutional constraints. Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis approach was employed to analyze the data. Ethical considerations: The study was approved by the university ethics committee. Participation was voluntary and anonymous, and written informed consent was obtained from all participants. Findings: The data analysis developed five major thematic categories: perceptions of the demands and responsibilities of nursing work, understanding of duty and professional ethics, ethical decision-making and moral autonomy, the emotional dimension and humanized nurse–patient relationships, and organizational conditions and systemic ethical challenges. Conclusions: The findings suggest that nurses largely enact Kantian ethics of duty through internalized professional values and commitment to patient dignity. However, organizational and systemic factors significantly limit their capacity for autonomous moral action. Strengthening ethical practice in nursing requires improved working conditions, enhanced professional autonomy, and structured support through ethics education, supervision, and team-based ethical reflection Ključne besede: nursing ethics, moral decision-making, Kantian duty ethics, professional autonomy, ethical dilemmas Objavljeno v RUP: 07.06.2026; Ogledov: 20; Prenosov: 0

4. Early rehabilitation after total hip or knee joint replacement : a narrative reviewManca Zupančič Opara, Žiga Kozinc, Helmut Kern, Klaus Müller-Hohenstein, Stefan Loefler, Nejc Šarabon, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: When conservative treatment of osteoarthritis is not effective, patients may undergo total joint replacement. Postoperative rehabilitation is a crucial component of recovery, and early rehabilitation plays a particularly important role in optimizing outcomes, with the aim of enabling patients to return to independence and work as soon as possible. The aim of this paper is to summarize the role of early rehabilitation after total knee and hip joint replacement, including its main goals, key components, optimal timing, potential risks, and the evidence comparing early with delayed rehabilitation. Current evidence indicates that early inpatient rehabilitation contributes to faster recovery of mobility, improved joint range of motion and muscle strength, fewer postoperative complications, and shorter hospital stays. Early outpatient rehabilitation initiated soon after discharge may further support recovery by increasing daily physical activity, improving joint mobility, and reducing rehabilitation costs. Although some studies report similar clinical outcomes between early and delayed physiotherapy, earlier initiation may allow patients to achieve comparable functional recovery sooner. Overall, early rehabilitation represents a safe and effective approach that should be integrated into standard postoperative care pathways Ključne besede: knee, hip, rehabilitation Objavljeno v RUP: 07.06.2026; Ogledov: 19; Prenosov: 0

5. Chest injuries associated with manual chest compressions in adult patients who have suffered out-of-hospital cardiac arrest : a retrospective studyIgor Karnjuš, Robert Hajdinjak, Aljaž Božič, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The aim of this retrospective observational study was to determine the incidence of chest injuries associated with manual chest compressions during cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the factors influencing their occurrence. Clinical and autopsy data were analyzed through a retrospective review of 71 autopsy reports of adult patients (58 men and 13 women) who did not survive out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. The study included cases from four municipalities in the Obalno-kraška region (Ankaran, Koper, Piran and Izola) of Slovenia, during the period from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2020. The results showed that 42 patients (59.2%) sustained rib cage fractures following unsuccessful cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Most fractures were located between the second and sixth ribs, with the third, fourth and fifth ribs being the most frequently affected. Sternal fractures were identified in 43.6% of cases. Rib cage injuries increased with age (ρ = 0.299, P = 0.013) and were more prevalent in cardiac arrests due to drowning (P = 0.012) and those occurring in public places (P = 0.006). However, given the relatively small sample size, further research is required to confirm the factors influencing the occurrence of chest injuries. 6. Moisture-dependent transition from strong to weak hydrogen bonding in wood polysaccharidesFilip Majstorović, Jakub Michal Sandak, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy combined with multivariate analysis was employed to investigate moisture- dependent hydrogen bonding of water in softwood cell walls. Spectral variations at equilibrium moisture con- tents were analyzed using principal component analysis and perturbation-correlation moving-window two- dimensional correlation spectroscopy to distinguish water populations with varying hydrogen-bond strengths. A distinct transition in hydrogen-bonding behavior was identified at approximately 10% wood moisture content. Below this threshold, water was found to predominantly engage in strong hydrogen bonds within wood cell walls. Above 10% moisture content, the relative contribution of strong hydrogen bonds to the overall wood- water hydrogen bond network decreased, whereas weakly hydrogen-bonded population became increasingly dominant. Experiments on modified wood and isolated polymers indicated that this transition originates mainly from wood polysaccharides, while lignin plays a minor role. These findings provide strong evidence for distinct water populations in wood cell walls, distinguished by their intermolecular hydrogen-bonding energies and predominant at specific wood moisture contents Ključne besede: infrared spectroscopy, wood-water interactions, hydrogen bonding, wood cell wall, cellulose Objavljeno v RUP: 05.06.2026; Ogledov: 66; Prenosov: 2

7. Progress feedback for countering selective exposure : when visualization can backfireJanine Riemann, Jasmin Alt, Uroš Sergaš, Marko Tkalčič, Bruce Ferwerda, 2026, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci Opis: Selective exposure in online news is often attributed to person- alization mechanisms and user modeling. Recent work proposes interface-level interventions that visualize reading balance or frame cross-cutting exposure as progress. However, we lack empirical evidence on whether alternative representations of user-model feedback meaningfully influence engagement with belief-opposing content. We conducted a between-subject experiment (N = 84) in a controlled news environment comparing two representations of diversity feedback: (1) an analytic bias visualization summarizing viewpoint balance and (2) a metaphorical growth visualization fram- ing cross-cutting exposure as personal development. Across behav- ioral and attitudinal measures of open-minded engagement, neither feedback representation increased engagement relative to control, and the two designs did not differ reliably. Our results suggest that lightweight representations of diversity signals—without adaptive personalization or structural changes to recommendations—may be insufficient to alter selective exposure in single-session settings. We discuss implications for designing user-model feedback and depolarization objectives in recommender systems. 8. Stone panopticum : rethinking on the monumental stone sculpture of the Iron Age HistriMartina Blečić Kavur, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Stone as a durable and symbolic material played a central role in the visual culture and social practices of Histrian communities during the last millennium BCE. This paper examines the fragmented stone sculpture from Nesactium (Croatia), focussing on its meaning, function and cultural context. Using the concepts of material agency and object biography, it shows how these monuments, in addition to their monumentality, structured space and belonging, shaped collective memory and social identities as well as ideological forms of expression and representation. Nesactium sculpture thus emerges as a visually articulated social practice with a multi-layered and multifunctional role within the community. Their production testifies to a high level of artisanship and strong links to the Italo-Adriatic cultural sphere. 9. Game on for news : stance-aware gamification in a news aggregator to promote engagement with diverse viewpointsCaroline Frössling, Uroš Sergaš, Marko Tkalčič, Bruce Ferwerda, 2026, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci Opis: Personalized news systems often adapt ranking to user preferences, which can reinforce selective exposure. We investigate an alterna- tive personalization strategy: stance-aware incentive shaping. In- stead of modifying content ranking, we use a minimal per-topic stance user model to adapt reward gradients, awarding more points for engaging with counter-attitudinal content. In a between-subject experiment ( = 98), we compare a non- adaptive baseline with two adaptive incentive framings (levels vs. leaderboards). Stance-aware gamification increased behavioral en- gagement (clicks and time), while subjective engagement and com- prehension did not differ reliably. Only the level-based framing produced significant pre–post increases in stance change and open- minded thinking, with effects varying by topic. We position stance-aware incentive shaping as a lightweight user-model intervention that adapts motivational feedback rather than ranking, offering an alternative pathway for diversity-aware personalization in recommender systems.
