1. Dark events in (post-)conflict social settings : quantitative data- gathering issues and strategiesMetod Šuligoj, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The paper emphasises the importance of ethical sensitivity, methodological adaptability, and reflexivity when studying dark events and deviant behaviour within socially complex settings. Focusing on dark events – organised controversial gatherings centered on past death and suffering – this paper addresses a growing yet under-researched area at the intersection of dark tourism, dark leisure, and collective memory studies. The characteristic deviant behaviours of organisers, performers, and/or attendees, combined with tense (post-)conflict social circumstances, complicate data gathering and elevate risks for both participants and researchers. Under such conditions, rigid randomised sampling is often unfeasible; instead, alternative strategies are necessary, requiring responsible and transparent implementation. In addition to field surveys, valuable – albeit often biased – data on deviance and dark events can be found online for (post-)conflict studies. These sources must be examined and interpreted critically, especially with regard to the limitations in knowledge creation processes. 2. Prosthetic memory and film-induced dark tourism in the specific post-conflict context : a divergent young adults’ perspectiveMetod Šuligoj, Jasna Hartman, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The present postmodernist study explores how widely accessible films depicting tragic historical sites/events influence prosthetic memories and film-induced dark tourism among Western Balkan (the ‘region of memory’) young adult new-age platform users with no personal war experience. A heterogeneous list of ten internation - ally known historical films, compiled with the help of informants, was the basis for discussion in three nationally diverse focus groups (Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian- Herzegovinian) and then compared with a comparison group from a less stressed environment. The results of the content analysis with triangulation are discussed, and explaining the missing prosthetic memory, factual knowledge and film-induced dark tourism nexus among young adults in a peculiarly toxic post-conflict atmosphere. The study thus identifies historical film and dark tourism abstainers and explains deviations not pre - viously reported in studies of the above concepts, taking into account the specific social environment and age group.
