Opis: As social contexts of teaching and learning, community schools are spaces where language ideologies are constructed and reproduced. These ideologies often fail to acknowledge the multiplicity and complexity of diasporic populations with negative effects on community language learning and maintenance. This study focuses on the language ideologies of teachers working in a community schools in Italy. Owing to Ukraine’s complex history and multi-ethnic make-up, the Ukrainian community is highly diverse in terms of its members’ linguistic repertoires and practices. Its internal diversity and heterogeneity, however, are not acknowledged as assets and resources in the community schools, where monoglossic perspectives and prescriptive standard language ideologies shape teachers’ beliefs and ideologies.
