1. Graph classes closed under self-intersectionKonrad K. Dabrowski, Vadim V. Lozin, Martin Milanič, Andrea Munaro, Daniël Paulusma, Viktor Zamaraev, 2026, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci Opis: A graph class is monotone if it is closed under taking subgraphs. A monotone class defined by finitely many obstructions has bounded treewidth if and only if one of the obstructions is a tripod, i.e. a disjoint union of subdivided claws and paths. This dichotomy also characterizes exactly those monotone graph classes for which many NP-hard graph problems admit polynomial-time algorithms. These dichotomies do not extend to the universe of all hereditary classes. This leads to the question of whether we can extend known dichotomies for monotone classes to larger families of hereditary classes. We answer this question affirmatively by considering the family of hereditary graph classes closed under self-intersection. This family is known to be located strictly between the monotone and hereditary classes. We prove a new structural characterization of graphs in self-intersection-closed classes excluding a tripod. In contrast to monotone classes excluding a tripod, these classes do not necessarily have bounded treewidth; in fact, they do not even need to be sparse. We use our characterization to give a complete dichotomy for Maximum Independent Set, and its weighted variant, on self-intersection-closed classes defined by finitely many obstructions: these problems are in P if the class excludes a tripod and NP-hard otherwise. Our dichotomy generalizes several known results on Maximum Independent Set in the literature. We also apply our characterization to obtain a dichotomy for Maximum Induced Matching on self-intersection-closed classes of bipartite graphs defined by finitely many obstructions, and for Satisfiability and Counting Satisfiability on self-intersection-closed classes of (bipartite) incidence graphs defined by finitely many obstructions. Finally, we use our characterization to obtain a dichotomy for boundedness of clique-width for self-intersection-closed classes of bipartite graphs defined by finitely many obstructions. 2. Positive body image is a pathway between nature contact and life satisfaction across 58 nationsViren Swami, Martin Voracek, Stefan Stieger, Toivo Aavik, Hamed Abdollahpour Ranjbar, Sulaiman Olanrewaju Adebayo, Reza Afhami, Oli Ahmed, Annie Aimé, Marwan Akel, Mirjam Koprivnik, Vita Poštuvan, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Time spent in nature benefits human mental and physical well-being. However, much of the variance in out- comes of nature contact remains unexplained, suggesting that new mechanistic pathways need to be considered. Here, we tested a novel conceptual model linking nature contact with life satisfaction via pathways involving positive experiences of living in and experiencing the world through the physical self. Using data from the Body Image in Nature Survey (BINS; N = 50,363), representing respondents from 58 nations and speaking 36 different languages, we find that nature contact is associated with greater self-compassion and greater perceived resto- ration in nature, which in turn are associated with more positive body image. In addition, more positive body image is associated with greater life satisfaction. These associations were robust to sensitivity tests, generalised to all gender identities and age groups, and held individually in almost all national groups and languages. Although replications are needed, we propose that the materialities of natural environments help to link bodily experiences to the production and experience of well-being, a process that is largely stable across national groups. 4. Psychotherapists’ mindful awareness and self-regulation in the prevention of empathic distressEva Benda, Maša Žvelc, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Objectives The aims of our research were to explore how psychotherapists recognize and experience empathic distress (ED), investigate their self-regulation strategies used within and outside psychotherapy sessions, and explore the role of mindful awareness during sessions in relation to self-regulation and ED. Methods We employed a qualitative, grounded theory methodology. We conducted interviews with eight Slovenian female integrative psychotherapists. Results Therapists reported experiencing intense emotions and physical reactions during empathic distress (ED), including anxiety, irritability, apathy, self-critique, resistance to work, fatigue, and physical pain. Many described prolonged periods of unrecognized ED. We found that mindful body awareness, a decentered perspective, and co-regulating with the client within therapy sessions were significant self-regulation strategies for therapists. Therapists also emphasized the importance of self-regulation before and after sessions and the value of supervision. Mindfulness, other meditation practices, and social- izing were highlighted as significant out-of-session regulation strategies for the prevention of ED. Conclusions This study highlights the critical need for psychotherapists to have tools for the early recognition of empathic distress. It introduces the Empathic Distress Prevention Model for Psychotherapists, emphasizing the role of mindful body awareness and other self-regulation strategies during therapy sessions, along with self-care outside of therapy. By addressing in-session self-regulation, rarely explored in psychotherapy literature, this study contributes novel insights with applications for therapists’ well-being, practice, education, and supervision. 5. Psychological factors and mechanisms of digital learningMaša Černelič Bizjak, Sabina Ličen, 2025, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji Opis: The digital environment is different from natural and social environments. Technologies are evolving to support new methods of collaborative learning and interaction. A key challenge is to ensure that technology-enhanced education is effective and creates a supportive environment for students. This requires considering adaptive motivations, emotions, and psychological factors such as intrinsic motivation, cognitive load and self-regulation, all which influence student engagement and success in digital learning. This chapter provides an overview of literature on psychological processes important in digital learning. Factors such as motivation, cognitive management, and self-regulation shape student performance in these environments. The psychology of digital learning explores the cognitive, emotional, and social dimensions of education in the digital age. Research aims to optimize these environments for better learning outcomes. Understanding these psychological elements is essential for educators to create more effective, engaging, and enjoyable digital learning experiences, though the field is still developing, and many aspects remain to be explored. 7. Self-compassion around the world : measurement invariance of the Short form of the self-compassion scale (SCS-SF) across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age groupsViren Swami, Ulrich S. Tran, Martin Voracek, Toivo Aavik, Hamed Abdollahpour Ranjbar, Sulaiman Olanrewaju Adebayo, Reza Afhami, Oli Ahmed, Annie Aimé, Marwan Akel, Mirjam Koprivnik, Vita Poštuvan, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Objectives The 12-item Self-Compassion Scale–Short Form (SCS–SF) is a widely used instrument for the assessment of self-compassion. To date, there have been few examinations of this instrument’s psychometric properties, particularly across nations and languages. Therefore, we used data from the Body Image in Nature Survey (BINS) to assess measurement invari- ance of the SCS–SF across nations, languages, gender identities, and age groups. Methods Participants (N = 56,968) from 65 nations completed the SCS–SF in 40 languages. Using these data, we tested various hypothesised models of the SCS–SF in the total sample and, using multi-group confirmatory factor analysis, tested for invariance of the optimal model across national groups, languages, gender identities, and age groups. Results In the total dataset, we found that an 11-item, 2-factor model (i.e., SCS-11) provided best fit to the data, with the two factors tapping distinct constructs of compassionate and uncompassionate self-responding. The SCS-11 was found to be partially scalar invariant across national groups and languages, and fully scalar invariant across gender identities and age groups. There was wide variation in latent means for the two factors, particularly across national groups and languages. Further analyses showed negligible associations between the two factors and sociodemographic variables, including marital status, financial security, and urbanicity. Conclusions Our results suggest that it may be possible to derive a stable 2-factor model of the SCS–SF for use in cross- cultural research, but also highlight the likelihood of cross-national and cross-linguistic variations in the way that self- compassion is understood. 9. The core of a vertex-transitive complementary prismMarko Orel, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The complementary prism ▫$\Gamma \overline{\Gamma}$▫ is obtained from the union of a graph ▫$\Gamma$▫ and its complement ▫$\overline{\Gamma}$▫ where each pair of identical vertices in ▫$\Gamma$▫ and ▫$\overline{\Gamma}$▫ is joined by an edge. It generalizes the Petersen graph, which is the complementary prism of the pentagon. The core of a vertex-transitive complementary prism is studied. In particular, it is shown that a vertex-transitive complementary prism ▫$\Gamma \overline{\Gamma}$▫ is a core, i.e. all its endomorphisms are automorphisms, whenever ▫$\Gamma$▫ is a core or its core is a complete graph.
