Families of choice among LGBTQ+ people in Slovenia : meanings, formation, barriers, and significance
Nika Ferbežar, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Objective:To explore families of choice among LGBTQ+ individuals in Slovenia. Background: Families of choice are formed by LGBTQ+ individuals through chosen bonds rather than bio-legal ties, fulfilling needs unmet by families of origin. Although international research has explored their functions across various contexts, this topic has not yet been empirically investigated in Slovenia. Method: A qualitative method based on grounded theory was used. Data triangulation combined semistructured interviews and self-reflective memoirs. Twenty-five LGBTQ+individuals in Slovenia participated. All data were analyzed according to the principles of grounded theory. Results: The findings encompass LGBTQ+ individuals’ perspectives on the meanings and definitions of families of choice, the processes of their creation and maintenance, the barriers they face, and their overall significance for LGBTQ+individuals. Conclusion and Implications: Families of choice require systematic support to form and thrive—for example, through inclusive education, safe public spaces such as LGBTQ+ organizations, and legal recognition to enable them to function fully as families. The term families of choice is preferable to chosen families because “choice” extends beyond the initial act of selection. Their role is expected to become increasingly vital amid the rise of anti-gender movements.

When giftedness masks need : systemic support and organizational conditions for twice-exceptional students
Vanja Riccarda Kiswarday, Tamara Rudolf, Mojca Kukanja-Gabrijelčič, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This study investigated the identification, understanding, and support of twice-exceptional students—learners demonstrating above-average abilities alongside learning, emotional, or behavioural challenges—in Slovenian primary schools, with a focus on systemic and organizational conditions shaping support practices. A cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted using an online survey administered to 115 educational professionals, including classroom teachers, special education teachers, inclusive pedagogues, and school counsellors. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Findings indicate that cognitive characteristics of twice-exceptional students are most consistently recognized, whereas socio-emotional and behavioural traits are frequently underestimated. Approximately 50–60% of students remain unidentified, primarily due to insufficient professional training, limited diagnostic tools, and fragmented institutional coordination. Current support practices focus predominantly on remediating learning difficulties, while fostering students’ strengths remains inconsistent. Participants emphasized the need for structured professional development, clearer administrative guidelines, strengthened interdisciplinary collaboration, and more coherent institutional frameworks. The results highlight the importance of systemic and organizational capacity-building in establishing comprehensive, strengths-based support systems, including early identification procedures, differentiated instruction, inter-professional coordination, and the development of national policy guidelines and diagnostic instruments to promote the full potential of twice-exceptional students.

Transparent Persona Generation With LLMs : An Evidence-based and Traceable Method for User-centred Design
Bojan Blažica, Manca Topole, Marko Debeljak, 2025, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji

Opis: Personas are a cornerstone of user-centred design, but traditional methods for developing them are difficult to validate, prone to bias and labour-intensive. Data-driven approaches have improved scalability, but often lack the narrative richness and empathy that make personas effective. We present a methodology that uses large language models (LLMs) to accelerate the creation of personas while underpinning and constraining the results with contextual and empirical data. Our approach emphasises transparency and traceability: each generated persona attribute can be linked to its source material, including project documentation, workshop transcripts, survey results or other contextual corpora. By combining the narrative strengths of LLMs with the rigour of an evidence-based foundation, the method generates personas that are both descriptive and verifiable. We present a five-step workflow methodology: (1) generation of persona candidates from contextual data using LLMs, (2) iterative refinement to ensure representativeness of personas, (3) selection of the most relevant profiles through expert evaluation, (4) design of detailed persona profiles, and (5) enrichment with empirical evidence to ensure traceability and validation. The methodology is illustrated with a case study from the field of soil health, but can also be applied to other design contexts where alignment between different stakeholders is crucial. We argue that this approach positions LLMs not as a substitute for human expertise, but as an accelerator of persona work that improves accountability, reduces bias and facilitates communication in collaborative design processes.

Exploring family communication as a predictor of happiness
Armin Nuhić, Denis Karahasanović, Mirzeta Nuhić, Rebeka Lekše, Mirko Prosen, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Introduction: Family communication is a key factor in shaping an individual’s psychological well-being and subjective happiness. This study aimed to examine the association between the quality of family communication and subjective happiness in the general population. Methods: A quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive design was used. Data were collected through an online questionnaire including the Family Communication Scale (FCS) and the Subjective Happiness Scale (SHS). The sample included 125 participants ( = 34.28 years). Both scales showed high internal consistency (FCS α = 0.924; SHS α = 0.796). Due to nonnormal distribution, non-parametric tests and Spearman’s correlation were applied. Results: Participants reported above-average family communication ( = 37.81; s = 7.56) and relatively high subjective happiness ( = 20.43; s = 4.60). A moderately strong positive correlation was found between family communication and happiness (rs = 0.489; n = 125; p < 0.001). Discussion and conclusion: Individuals who perceive family communication as more open and emotionally supportive report greater happiness. These findings highlight the importance of fostering emotionally intelligent family interactions as a protective factor for mental health.
