Title:Developing Reading Skills in Slovenian Lessons through Didactic Games
Abstract:The didactic game is an excellent tool or teaching method for developing reading skills in the Slovenian language classroom. It provides a smooth transition into the world of reading and develops students‘ communication (speaking, writing, reading and listening) and reading (reading comprehension, reading silently and aloud, independent reading, different types of texts) skills. In this paper, we will focus on the theoretical and practical foundations of didactic play in teaching the Slovenian language in the field of promoting and developing reading ability and look for approaches to stimulate it. To this end, we have created a set of didactic games for pupils in the first grade of primary school, which is designed in such a way that, in addition to developing the reading and writing of capitalized words, developing reading skills (technique), naming beings, objects, actions with book words and phrases, quoting book words from the same subject field and developing vocabulary, we also achieve learning objectives in other subject areas. The results show that didactic games in Slovenian lessons help to motivate and encourage pupils to read and develop their reading skills. In doing so, they achieve their learning objectives and experience reading as a pleasure, while at the same time realizing that reading enables them to plan sustainable ways of thinking in their life situations. This work can help to achieve the vision of sustainable literacy for the future and to increase interest in reading among pupils beyond the first cycle of education.
