Abstract:Članek tematizira in problematizira uveljavljene in (medijsko) propagirane podobe aktualnih tehnoloških procesov ter artefaktov (veliko podatkovje, umetna inteligenca).

Title:The Metaphorical Construction of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence : An Analysis of the Ideological Instrumentalization of Technological and Social Processes
Abstract:The article thematizes and problematizes established and (media) propagated images of current technological processes and artefacts (big data, artificial intelligence). Images and meanings of a particular phenomenon or process are often co-created through specific metaphors. The text highlights a set of well-established discourses and metaphorical expressions that appear in “proximity” to the terms big data and artificial intelligence, in order to explain innovations. Collective visions and ideologically as well as economically motivated expectations and imaginaries of future scientific or technological development form possible, and consequently thinkable, versions of technological development. Metaphors related to certain technological processes obscure the social constructivity of the selected version of the technology. The metaphor of natural phenomenon alludes to the uncontrolled nature of the processes that are actually chosen and controlled in the context of modern capitalism.
Keywords:big data, artificial intelligence, metaphors, algorithms, social construction of technology
