Abstract:Rezilienca je dinamičen proces, za katerega sta značilni splošna življenjska prilagodljivost in prožnost mladostnika, ki kljub težavam ohranja svoj pričakovani razvoj. Možni so štirje etnično identitetni statusi: privzeti, razpršeni, odloženi in doseženi.

Title:The impact of ethnic identity on the development of resilience among adolescents from immigrant families
Abstract:Resilience is a dynamic process characterized by general life harmonization and adolescent's flexibility who, despite the problems, maintains his/her expected development. In this context protective factors play an important role as they are present inside the adolescent and his social environment. Educational institutions can contribute to the development of ethnic identity and resilience. Ethnic identity is a psychosocial construct and a development process within which the adolescent is defined by exploration and commitement of her/his ethnicity. Four ethnic identity statuses were identified, these are: achieved ethnic identity, diffused ethnic identity, foreclosed ethnic identity and moratorium. We also discussed two models for promoting resilience in school, which give recommendations for an inclusive multicultural oriented school. Our intention was to resolve the dichotomy of ethnic identity as a protective factor or a risk factor among adolescents from immigrant families. Between March and June 2011 371 Slovene adolescents of different ethnicity, aged 12 to 19 compiled a strucutred questionnaire which included the Multigroup ethnic identiy measure and Resilience scale. Studies has shown that both scale have high reliability. In either case the Cronbach alpha coefficient was over 0,80. The hypothesis were verified with variance analysis and Games-Howell post hoc test. The results showed that the achieved ethnic identity influenced the development of resilience among adolescents from immigrant families. Inclusive and multicultural school allows the adolescent to explore and express his/her ethnic identity and through educational process to transmit multicultural competences which are crucial for a wider social cohesion and social maturity.
