1. Epidemiology of musculoskeletal injuries in female wrestlingMarina Dobnik, Rok Vatovec, Jakob Anderlič, Marko Joksimović, Matej Ipavec, Matej Plevnik, 2026, pregledni znanstveni članek Opis: Background: Wrestling is among the world’s oldest combat sports and is associated with a substantial burden of musculoskeletal injury. However, epidemiological syntheses in wrestling have historically been dominated by male cohorts, and the injury profile in women’s wrestling remains less clearly defined. Therefore, the aim of this review was to synthesize the available evidence on the incidence, anatomical distribution, severity, and type of musculoskeletal injuries in female wrestlers. Material and methods: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and SPORTDiscus with full text databases were screened for relevant articles. Ten studies were included in the qualitative synthesis of our review. Results: Ten studies were included. Reported injury incidence ranged from 4.29 injuries per 1000 training hours to 16.8 injuries per 1000 athlete-exposures, depending on the exposure denominator used. Across studies, upper-extremity and lower-extremity injuries represented the largest proportion of reported injuries, followed by trunk and head/neck/face injuries. Within extremity injuries, shoulder and upper arm injuries represented the largest share. Notably, while upper-extremity injuries predominated in youth cohorts, lower-extremity injuries accounted for the greatest proportion of injuries in elite athletes. Most injuries were classified as mild, and joint and muscle injuries were among the most frequently reported injury categories. Conclusions: This review provides an updated synthesis of musculoskeletal injury epidemiology in female wrestling, highlighting age- and level-specific injury patterns relevant for prevention planning. Nevertheless, interpretation must remain cautious due to substantial between-study heterogeneity in injury definitions, exposure denominators, injury categorization, and clinical ascertainment. Standardized surveillance methods and reporting practices are needed to enable robust comparisons and evidence-based prevention strategies. 2. Dynamic strength index in athletic performance : a comprehensive analysis of theory, measurement and practical applicationMarko Joksimović, Ratko Pavlović, Vladimir Koprivica, Matej Plevnik, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Background and purposeThe development of athletic performance requires a detailed assessment of the relationship between maximal strength and the ability to express it explosively. Traditional tests one-repetition maximum do not differentiate the rate of force development, which led to the introduction of the Dynamic Strength Index, defined as the ratio between force in the countermovement jump and the isometric mid-thigh pull . The aim of this paper was to present the theoretical background, methodological approaches, and practical applications of Dynamic Strength Index in order to optimize training and prevent injuries.Materials and methodsDynamic Strength Index is calculated by measuring peak force in countermovement jump and isometric mid-thigh pull tests using a force plate. Standardization of protocols (body position, contraction duration, software processing) is essential for validity. Test–retest reliability is high (Intraclass Correlation Coefficient >0.90). Normative values vary by sport and playing position: for example, sprinters and jumpers often record Dynamic Strength Index values >0.80, while weightlifters usually show lower values (<0.60).ResultsFindings indicate that DSI is an effective tool for training individualization. Values below 0.60 suggest the need for plyometric and ballistic training, while values above 0.80 point to a focus on maximal strength development. The optimal range (0.60–0.80) reflects a balanced profile. DSI is also useful for longitudinal monitoring of adaptations, adjusting training loads, and identifying injury risks. However, variability in testing protocols, anthropometric differences, and software processing may limit its applicability and comparability across studies.ConclusionDynamic Strength Index is a valuable biomechanical indicator linking maximal and explosive strength, allowing precise programming of training and performance monitoring. Its use has already been established in elite sports, but full validation requires measurement standardization and the development of sport-specific normative databases. Future directions include phase-specific force analysis within contraction cycles, expanding testing protocols, and integrating digital platforms for automated analysis. 3. Determining power training needs using the force-velocity profile (imbalance) in elite female volleyball using different vertical jumpMarko Joksimović, Dana Badau, Rebaz B. Tawfeeq, Nebahat Eler, Raul Ioan Muntean, Adela Badau, Matej Plevnik, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This study aimed to evaluate the Force-Velocity (Fv) profile of elite female volleyball players during the Squat Jump and Countermovement Jump to define the Fv profile of female athletes based on strength, power, and individual mechanical characteristics. The goal was to enhance training efficiency and improve performance in ballistic movements. For this study, we recruited 12 elite female volleyball players from the Montenegro U19 national team. The Fv profile was assessed in two types of muscle contractions: the Squat Jump (concentric contraction) and the Countermovement Jump (eccentric-concentric contraction) to determine Fv imbalance. First, the height of the jump was measured in the Squat Jump, followed by the Countermovement Jump. After that, the Fv profile was analyzed under both contraction types to assess potential imbalances. The results showed an Fv imbalance of 24.93% during the concentric muscle contraction and 29.71% during the eccentric-concentric muscle contraction. Based on these findings, it is suggested that training should prioritize enhancing strength capabilities while simultaneously addressing Fv imbalances. Reducing theoretical Fv imbalance could serve as a supplementary component of training to improve overall physical. performance.
