Metaphors in political discourse from a cross-cultural perspective
Silva Bratož, 2014, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The paper focuses on various ways in which metaphors in political discourse reflect the cultural and linguistic environments from which they emerge. It discusses conceptual metaphors and their linguistic realisations in popular pre-election discourse in English, German, and three Euro-Mediterranean languages (i. e. Slovene, Italian and Croatian). One of the main aims of the paper is to present a contrastive analysis model which combines quantitative and qualitative methods on the one hand, and top-down and bottom-up approaches to metaphor research on the other. Reference will be made to the results of a case study based on the contrastive analysis of a corpus of pre-election articles related to the American elections in 2008 which has been undertaken to validate the proposed model. Itwill be argued that while the selected languages conceptualise elections in similar ways, there are also significant variations which have cultural implications.

Evaluation of the acidity in samples of virgin olive oil for the 1995-2005 period and correlation between the collected data and the performed sensory analysis
Vasilij Valenčič, Erika Bešter, Milena Bučar-Miklavčič, Bojan Butinar, 2007, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The acidity and organoleptic characteristics of virgin olive oil produced in Slovenian Istra were studied. The acidity of 4,871 samples of virgin olive oils was determined for the 1995-2005 period. 135 samples produced in crop year 2002/2003 with acidity below 0.2% (w/w) and 291 samples of crop year 2005/2006 were sensory evaluated. According to sensory evaluation in crop year 2002/2003, 128 out of 135 samples were classified as extra virgin olive oils, while 7 samples did not reach the specified requirements. In crop year 2005/2006, it was established that 71.5% of the analysed samples complied with extra virgin category, 24.4% with virgin and 4.1% with lampante. Time of harvest, storage conditions before processing, and time from picking to processing all influenced the oil quality, whereas olive cultivars did not. Chemical and sensory analyses were performed according to the Commission Regulation (EEC) No 2568/91 and added annexes.

Experimental verification of an approximate technoque for damage identification in beams using nonlinear regression analysis of bending frequency changes
Elma Ekinovic, Vlatko Doleček, Slavko Dolinšek, Nedim Hodzic, 2010, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This paper presents the experimental verification of an approximate technique for damage identification in beam-like structures, which is based on the use of bending frequency changes and nonlinear regression analysis. The proposed technique was explained in details in [7] so only few necessary steps are recalled here. The identification of damage location and its depth is performed by use of experimentally measured frequency changes and previously established regression relations between bending frequency changes and damage parameters. The experiments were performed on the intact and damaged beams. The damage in these experiments is made by saw cut as a narrow open notch perpendicular to the beam axis. The results of identification are promising taking into account inevitable modelling and measurement errors.
Ključne besede: damage identification, frequency changes, finite element analysis, nonlinear regression
