Socialni kapital v evropskih državah : ugotovitve, trendi in metodološke pomanjkljivosti primerjalnih študij

Opis: The article critically discusses two issues. The first is related to the distribution of social capital across European (EU) nations, and describes the main (expected) trends and patterns on the basis of conventional 'proxy' variables, such as trust and level of involvement in voluntary organizations, in the framework of international studies (EVS/WVS and ESS). The second deals with data quality, in particular with the question whether the findings obtained in such a manner can be regarded as reliable and credible. As for the first issue, one can define four groups as regards the distribution of social capital across European nation-states. Contrary to the authors who claim that there is no significant difference between individual countries, the results of our analysis have revealed a considerable level of differentiation. There is a clear distinction between groups I and IV, while the difference between groups II and III is less obvious. In the context of critical reflection and discussion of the comparability and credibility of empirical data, one should point out some mistakes and inconsistencies most probably brought about partly by inappropriate execution of international surveys (studies) and partly by various semantic, cultural and institutional factors that were not paid appropriate attention during the phases of survey preparation and planning, as well as those of data interpretation and generalization (analysis)

Informiranost kot ključno vodilo do kakovosti življenja pacientov s stomo

Opis: Introduction: An ostomy, especially a permanent one, will have an impact on the quality of life of patients as it affects also their body image and self-esteem. Therefore, properpre-operative and post-operative counselling, expert care and support can significantly contribute to improvement in the quality of their lives. Aim: The goal of the research was to determine in which phase of the treatment process the stoma patients receive enough information on their condition and when the information is not sufficient. The research was designed to assess also the contribution of health care providers in their better coping with all aspects of stoma management. Method: A questionnaire was designed to obtain quantitative data on the above issues from the patients and the enterostomal therapists in Slovenia. Results: The research results show that expert advice and counselling on stoma management is mainly provided by enterostomal therapists during hospital stay. However, the primary health care providers often lack the necessary knowledge and competence for the work with patients requiring stomal therapy. The quality of information given is generally influenced by the "cognitive understanding of information" and the "psychological needs of the patient". Discussion and conclusions: Heath education of stoma patients as well as relevant education of health professionals in relation to stoma is of significance in physical and psychological aspects of stoma management at all levels of care.
