Opis: In this paper we present a multimethod approach for induction of a specific class of classifiers, which can assist physicians in medical diagnosing in the case of mitral valve prolapse. Mitral valve prolapse is one of the most controversial prevalent cardiac condition and may affect up to ten percent of the population and in the worst case results in sudden death. MultiVeDec is a general framework enabling researchers to generate various intelligent tools based on machine learning. In this paper we focused on various decision tree methods, which are capable of extracting knowledge in a form closer to human perception, a feature that is very important in medical field. The experiment included classifiers with various classical single method approaches, evolutionary approaches, hybrid approaches and also our newest multimethod approach. The main concern of the latest approach is to find a way to enable dynamic combination of methodologies to the somehow quasi unified knowledge representation. The proposed multimethod approach was capable to outperform all other tested approaches by producing classifier for diagnosing mitral valve prolapse with the highest overall and average class accuracy. More importantly, it was also capable to find some new knowledge important in diagnosing of mitral valve prolapse.

Opis: In the Adriatic region one could find several contradictory tendencies, as a result of local accommodation of social structures and systems to the political organization of space. The persistent planning and spatial divergence prevents the region from achieving the same potential common development visions, bringing forward that area as a special development region within the EU. The discussed case shows the need for a more appropriate governance of different horizontal (spatial and sectorial) as well as vertical (hierarchical) policies in planning crossborder cooperation or social and spatial (re)integration of borderlands and population, especially if we try to create a more sustainable and long-lasting development plan for our increasingly globalized and co-dependent common home on the European and Mediterranean level

Opis: Aim of this study was to investigate the effects of two different types of strength training programs on static balance in elderly subjects. Subjects older than 65 years of age were enrolled and assigned to control group (CG, n =19), electrical stimulation group (ES, n = 27) or leg press group (LP, n = 28). Subjects in both the training groups were exposed to training (2-3x/week) for a period of 9 weeks. In the ES group the subjects received neuromuscular electrical stimulation of the anterior thigh muscles. In the LP group the subjects performed strength training on a computer-controlled leg press machine. Before and after the training period, static balance of the subject was tested using a quiet stance task. Average velocity, amplitude and frequency of the center-of-pressure (CoP) were calculated from the acquired force plate signal. The data was statistically tested with analysis of (co)variance and t-tests. The three groups of subjects showed statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) regarding the pre-training vs. post-training changes in CoP velocity, amplitude and frequency. The differences were more pronounced for CoP velocity and amplitude, while they were less evident in case of mean frequency. The mean improvements were higher in the LP group than in the ES group. Our results provide supportive evidence to the existence of the strength-balance relationship. Additionally, results indicate the role of recruiting central processes and activation of functional kinetic chains for the better end effect
