Impact of CSR, Green Finance and Green Innovation on Environmental Performance of Banks in India
Maryam Meraj, Mohammed Afzal, Manpreet Kaur, Jahangir Chauhan, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In an era of growing environmental challenges, the role of banks in promoting sustainability is critical. This study examines how Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), green finance, and green innovation influence the environmental performance of Indian banks. Guided by legitimacy theory and the natural resource-based view, survey data from 379 bank employees were analysed using structural equation modelling. The results reveal that robust CSR initiatives, effective green finance practices, and innovative green strategies significantly enhance banks’ environmental performance. These findings contribute to theoretical understanding and offer practical insights for improving sustainability in the banking sector. The study recommends that banks in emerging economies strengthen internal resources by investing in CSR, adopting green finance, and fostering green innovation to boost environmental performance. Such efforts align with global sustainability goals, positioning banks as key players in environmentalprotection and responsible finance.

Experimental and analytical evaluation of shear capacity of reclaimed timber connections with thermo-mechanically densified wooden dowels
Mohammad Derikvand, Donya Bazyar Khoshroodi, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The reuse of reclaimed timber in structural applications is increasingly recognized as a strategy to extend ma- terial life cycles and reduce waste. Particular attention has recently turned to reusing reclaimed timber in adhesive-free laminated products with wooden dowels, where connection performance is critical. The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanical performance of double-shear connections assembled from reclaimed spruce timber using thermo-mechanically densified wooden dowels. The dowels were first evaluated in bending and embedment tests on lamellae made from both reclaimed and virgin spruce timber. The shear capacity of the connections was then evaluated in three layups: two homogeneous (all-reclaimed lamellae and all-virgin spruce lamellae) and one hybrid (reclaimed side lamellae with a central virgin spruce lamella). Analytical predictions were performed based on the draft of the new Eurocode 5, however, with two alternative definitions of dowel bending resistance (ultimate moment Mu and yield moment My), and three alternative definitions of embedment strength (f 0.05d h calculated using the 0.05 d offset method, f Fmax h calculated from Fmax, and f 0.8Fmax h calculated from 0.8 Fmax). The three lamellae layups exhibited relatively similar mean capacities (7.3–8.3 kN). The all-reclaimed connections were on average 13 % stronger than the other assemblies, but this was not statistically significant. Among the model input variants, Mu with f 0.05d h showed the closest agreement with the experimental mean values, while My with f 0.05d h led to more conservative predictions preferable for design. In both cases, excluding outliers from the embedment test results reduced overestimation in the predictions. All other input variants overestimated the shear capacity. Overall, both homogeneous and hybrid connections with reclaimed timber lamellae performed comparably to virgin timber connections and exhibited predictable mechanical behavior.

Cultural narratives, social norms, and psychological stigma : a study of mental health help-seeking behavior in Peshawar, Pakistan
Daraz Umar, Štefan Bojnec, Younas Khan, Zakir Hussain, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Introduction: Mental health stigma remains a major barrier to accessing psychiatric care worldwide, with pronounced effects in culturally traditional societies such as Peshawar, Pakistan. In the Pashtun cultural context, the code of Pashtunwali—an honor-based system—shapes social attitudes and behaviors, potentially influencing mental health help-seeking patterns. This study examines how cultural narratives, social norms, and stigma interact to affect help-seeking behavior in this sociocultural setting. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among a stratified random sample of 400 adults aged 19 years and above in Peshawar. Data were collected using culturally validated instruments, including the Mental Illness Stigma Scale (MISS) and a Social Norms Scale. Bivariate analyses employed simple linear regression and binary logistic regression to examine individual relationships between variables. Multivariate analyses, including multiple linear regression and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), were used to assess combined effects and mediation pathways. Results: Cultural narratives had a positive impact on help-seeking behavior, explaining 42% of its variance. Stigma showed a significant negative association, decreasing help-seeking likelihood by 26% for each unit increase. Social norms demonstrated a positive association with help-seeking behavior and indirectly reduced stigma. Collectively, these variables accounted for 68% of the variance in help-seeking likelihood. Discussion: The findings highlight the pivotal role of culturally resonant narratives and supportive social norms rooted in Pashtunwali in improving mental health service utilization. Addressing stigma while reinforcing positive cultural frameworks can substantially enhance help-seeking behavior in Peshawar and similar sociocultural contexts.

Linking older adults’ psychosocial well-being with objective and perceived environments in Slovenia
Mateja Erce Paoli, Michael David Burnard, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background: Europe’s aging population faces resource loss, loneliness, and social isolation, making psychosocial well-being a priority. A well-designed environment can help compensate for lost resources, while poor design may harm health, highlighting environmental quality as key to successful aging. Aim: The aim of our study was to evaluate the link between psychosocial well-being, and the built environment. Method: Participants from three retirement homes in Slovenia filled in the World Health Organization Wellbeing Index, the Brief Sense of Community, the Lubben Social Network Scale, the University of California Los Angeles Loneliness Scale, and the short version of the Social Production Function Instrument with the assistance of a researcher. Additionally, the built environ- ment was objectively assessed using the EVOLVE tool and subjectively assessed by participants using a custom scale. Structural equation modeling was used to examine paths between the environ- ment and wellbeing. Results: The findings showed a statistically significant indirect effect of well-being on the perceived environment, while no indirect effects were found between the objective and per- ceived environment or well-being. However, specific objectively measured environmental factors, such as acceptability, features for sensory and dementia support, and perceived accessibility and aesthetic environmental attributes significantly affect well-being. Conclusion: These findings highlight the need to prioritize well-being in urban planning for aging populations. Beyond basic needs like safety, high- level needs like aesthetics, sensory support, and accessibility should be emphasized. Enhancing well- being through these factors may be effective when designing or modifying physical environments. Accessible, sensory-friendly, and dementia-supportive designs can further support healthy aging.
