Title:Innovative application of a GEN-AI tutor in robotics and electronics projects in a pedagogical context
Abstract:This paper explores an innovative use of generative artificial intelligence (GEN-AI) in the courses “Robotics” and “Electronics” at the Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana. In these courses, attended by dual-major students with a focus on technology, a new approach to independent student work on final projects was introduced in the winter semester of the academic year 2024/2025. A tailored GEN-AI agent-tutor was employed, enhanced with didactic principles (active learning, Kolb‘s learning cycle) and equipped with literature covered in lectures. Unlike general generative models, the agent accounted for the students’ available equipment and the technical specifics of the projects. This allowed it to provide specific and relevant responses tailored to the given situation. The system aimed to guide students through a personalised learning pathway, with the agent’s responses substituting for the teacher‘s presence when the teacher was unavailable. Questions and responses generated during interactions between the Gen-UI agent-tutor and students will serve as a basis for further development and improvement of the agent‘s pedagogical effectiveness.
